Trail cam on State Land

Trail cam on State Land
Anyone take a chance and set up a trail cam on state land? Has it been stolen and should I risk it getting stolen. I was planning on getting a relativly cheap wildview so it would not break the bank. Liked to hear everyones opinions.

Even if it is a cheap camera, why would you risk it getting stolen? I wouldn't ever put one up on public land. By the time you get a camera, batteries, sd card, your looking at a decent amount of money invested.

I purchased a camera last year and have had it on public land for a year now. No one has messed with it yet. I belong to a cabin on state and its about a 3 mile walk to get to the area on a logging trail so there aren't a whole lot of hunters in the area until rifle season. I take it down during rifle season to decrease the chance of someone finding it. I also try to hide it is so its not real obvious.

You had better put it way back in the sticks to keep it away from lazy theifs. Some state land is hardly ever hunted around here due to it's location but most of it looks like a pumpkin patch come gun season with orange blobs everywhere!

If it weren't for some real dandy bucks visiting my apple pile on my 7 acres of property, that's where my camera would be right now. I hunt mostly public land and I sure would like to know what I'm after out there. How badly do you want to know what is out there, That is the question? To me I plan on putting it out there eventually. Where I go I don't see too many other hunters until gun season and I won't leave it out there then. I know it's a lot to lose, but if you use it for scouting and public land is your choice, I take the gamble, there is always cans to collect or overtime at work if need be.
