i've tried them. I have the 4mp. i posted my comments on the previous page. i'm having problems with mine and i'm returning it. the camera is not taking 4mp pictures, it's taking 320x240 pictures which are not good! I confirmed that I have the camera on high resolution, yet I get crappy pictures.the video mode works fine. kind of weird.

The big selling point with the old moultrie for me was the battery life and the rechargable 6v batteries. We all can say bye bye to batter life. Ill take my last years moultrie. It does the job.

RackLuster, i might not be correct on this but its worth a shot, On my 4.1 Moultrie from Cabelas, you have to have it on picture mode to get good pictures. If its on video mode it will only take the smaller resolution pictures. That i think is why your pictures are smaller, switch it over to only pictures and you will start to get better pics. I hope this helps.

Hey guys! Upfront want to tell you that I work for Moultrie and we are trying to get the word out about some information that has been miscommunicated regarding our cameras on forums, websites and catalogs.

You can NOT hook up a solar panel toour new cameras!!!! Not even if you buy rechargeable batteries.

This was mistakenly placed in some copy discussing our product onforums and in product catalogs. People are talking about getting rechargeable batteries and hooking up a solar panel-you can not do this. You can only hook it up to a 12-volt external source if you want a power supply other than the D-cells. Rechargeable batteries are a good investment even though they tend to be more expensive. Please pass the word onto your friends. We want people know about this mistake and that the cameras still get awesome battery life (150 days)off normal alkaline D-cells.
I have the moultrie 4.1 outfitter cam and my solar panel hooks up to it.

Can someone educate me a little on the Moultrie line. I have assumed they are a cheaper camera and guys say you get what you pay for.

If you dont mind PM me with your experiences with the Moultries. Before I spend this kind of $ I look to get the low-down.

I would appreciate any replies. Successes, failures, advantages, disadvantages etc.

Thanks

From Chasin Game:

06/11/2007:
A Word of caution to those new owners of the I-60 and I-40 and future owners of theM series. The strap loop on the rightrear of the camera is positioned at the center of the 2 screws that hold the battery cover on. If mounted on a small tree where there is no support in this area and you tighten the strap too tight, you will see that the front of the battery cover lid will start to pullaway and leave an opening that could cause a water leak. Do not over tighten the strap when mounting these cameras.[/align]
06/12/2006:
I spent about 6 hours scanning the multitude of outdoor forums and looking for feed back on the new cams that are making there way onto the market and are presently arriving at different locations throughout the US. It seems that the bulk of talk is directed toward the new IR Moultrie cameras and the old hard core folks still want to compare them to the Cudde IR camera and push the fable that “I’d buy one of those if it was as fast as the Cudde on trigger speed. Well a quick scan of a lot of reviews showed that most IR cameras tested to date equaled the 3 second trigger time of the Cudde IR and in most cases beat it buy at least one second. The Leaf River, Bushnell, Stealth, Buckeye, Reconyx, new IR Moultrie’s, all have better trigger times. The fact is that the trail camera industry has stepped up to the plate and hit a home run on bettering trigger their times. Non Typical still leads in some areas but they are certainly not the benchmark in today’s market. If I can pay less than $200.00 and get equivalent performance or better and be supported by a company that is renowned for customer service, I think that is the route I would take. Non Typical has made great strides since the introduction of their 06 units and have improved the performance in some cases but all that technology is still stuck in that same case. The Leaf river crowd also was in there strong and rightfully so, because we truly love that camera. It looks like this is going to be a very interesting year, especially with the Wildview folks sneaking in something new out there. We are still waiting for Recon to give us the surprise that was mentioned last year but as of yet has not happened. As I said “It is going to be an interesting year”. Bill

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 1, 2007

SOLAR PANEL USAGE ON MOULTRIE’S 2007 CAMERA
(AFFECTS I-60, I-40, M-60, M-40, D-40, DGW4.0,
AND CABELA’S MODELS CDC5.0, CDC5.0V)
Recent publications have misstated the option of using solar panels with Moultrie’s new 2007 camera line. Moultrie cameras requiring D-cell batteries are
not compatible with any type of solar panel, including the Moultrie brand solar panel.
Forums, websites and publications have
misinformed readers to install rechargeable batteries in order to use a solar charger, this statement is also false.
To achieve extended battery life Moultrie only suggests using the 12-volt external power port option available on all 2007 camera models (as listed above).
Moultrie stands behind its newest camera technology and customers can expect exceptionally long battery life with current use of D-cell batteries. Please contact our customer service department with any questions, (800) 653-3334.
