I did a little snowshoe hunting today. I had a couple run past but only got one shot at one at about 20 yards thru some really thick brush. SKiped the arrow off about a face cord worth of lumber before loosing it in the tall grass. Oh Well, it was still a great day. My boddy got a nice one though. It was a great day to be out and about, bright and sunny in the mid 30s. I hope you guys are having as much fun as I am.

Hey Josh--how the heck have you been? I was asking Dan about you just the other day--hope things are going well up there.
Funny thing, I did that myself a week or so ago on a cottontail. Got one good one in the freezer, but need a few more for a good cook-out. Shot right over it's back, and when the arrow hit the ground it skipped and went airborne into the thick stuff. My son scratched around for it for a while, but no luck--for all I know it stuck up in a tree. Guess somebody has to keep the vendors in business! lol

I miss cotton tail hunting back home. These darn snowshoes come by doing about 200 miles an hour in front of the dogs. The brush was so thick that I coudn't get shooting at a few of them. It was a lot of fun though. Its a good thing I went out yesterday, we got about 5-6" of fresh snow today and it is in the lower 20s. It is supposed to be clear tomorrow so maybe I'll take the bow back out and try to do some solo stalking on them.

I had always found cotton tails to taste better than snowshoes. Usually the cotton tails were all eating grasses and grains while the snowshoes are eating cedar/pine/and bark. I'm sure the snowshoes are better eating earlier in the year too. I just like to chase them around and nothing is as fun as watching a beagle chopping along the track.
I was down at the anchor last weekend, not much going on. I stopped at the bait store down there and the guy said they had been seeing a few steelies, but nothing great yet.

boy I screwed that up didnt haha.
Snowshoes taste like crap compared to regular Rabbits. They are definatly a blast to hunt. I did so also when I first arrived but promptly stopped as I couldn't find a good way to eat them. Never had the opportunity to hunt them behind a dog though, I am sure that could be a hoot. Used to walk the thick stuff still hunting. Pretty tough to see white on white even with my young eyes.
Bummer on the Anchor. I had heard some good reports of guys from up here doing very well on slightly high and dirty water. I almost made the trip down today and tomorrow but I had heard the water was back to high and dirty. Not to mention the rods are horrible. Rumor has it cantwell has around 10 feet of snow already! Shame I sold my seld

About the only good way to eat a snowshoe is to soak it in milk for a day or so and then bone it out and cook it fast in a hot pan with butter and onions. eat them like fajitas. The roads have been fairly crappy here lately too. I was thinking about maybe making a run north to do some predator hunting in the near future. Would rather hit kodiak but don't have the money to do that right now.

why not go north for caribou? would be pretty cheap but dang cold.
There is no right way to eat a hare haha. I've heard the milk trick, I'll have to get out and try it this winter. Man they are definatly a riot to hunt. Big ole rubber blunts do awesome for them and I have a ton to boot!
