What's a realistic hunting arrow speed today
Shot through my new crony yesterday and shot at 260 fps. I'm shooting a Hoyt Magnatec with xt2000 limbs set at 65# and shooting a CX300 30" arrow with a 100 grain tip. In todays world of 300 fpsbows is 260 fpsan average hunting speed in todays world of 300+ fps bows that are on the market. Just curious, I'm happy with what I have thats all.

Probably so. Once you factor in the average draw length, arrow weight and hunting weight I'd say 260 would be fairly average for the entire bowhunting community (not just the speed freak net types).
Maybe a little higher than average?

I just chron'd my Hoyt Ultramag (65lbs@27") with Goldtip XT'sand 100 grain field points. It shot exactly 259-260 fps three times straight. I believe 260 fps is the max for ASA 3D bowhunter class so I would say 260is good performance.

Yup.... that's about average I'd say. It might be just a few pounds under what would be expected for a long armed sucker like you. I had been shooting at 265 with my Darton but just dumbed it down to 255 when I wen to the Quick Spins from feathers.

As mentioned, depending on draw length, draw weight and arrrow weight, I would think anywhere from 250-270 fps is average for an adult male compound hunting setup. Speed ratings haven't risen drastically over the last 4 or 5 years but the bows have become more efficient and forgiving in terms of overall design without giving up that level of speed.

I shot 5 arrows through mine last week. Speeds were 304-306 fps. I know that seems a bit faster than the averages posted, but I'm comfortable with this setup for hunting and thats all I do. It's a 70 lb 2003 Bowtech Extreme VFT. Arrows weigh in at 386 grains.
Prior to my current hunting bow, my previous 1992 PSE Carroll Intruder was getting 270 fps. Of course that one was 80 lbs, overdraw and 2413 XX75's.

I am shooting a Mathews Ultra II (no longer in production BTW) at 27" and 64# and shoot 275 fps. I elk and muleyhunt with a formernational champion 3D shooterand he makes fun of me for not pumping my bow's weight up as far as it will go to get the maximum speed out of it. He shoots some crazy weight that is over 80# so he can have supersonic speeds with his bow. I like where I am at, but he likes where he is at. He is a better shooter though so take that for what it is worth.
