Rich - I apologize if you felt that I was trying to get into a pissing contest. I respect you and wasn't trying to cause trouble but this guy has a serious problem that could effect every mount he has and IMO bag it and bomb it isn't going to produce long lasting results.

I understand, and all you and I were trying to do, was help this guy, you and I have nothing to fight about.
I think it depends on the condition and how long the problem was there along with other factors. "Enough said on this subject."
Time for the next earth shattering taxidermy problem.

Hey guys,
There is a moth out there that will eat tanned hides and the hair on them. I can't remember the name of it but will try to find out and let you know. A frined or ours (a biologist)who is also a taxidermist has run accross it in Missouri. The only way to kill the eggs, larva, and moth is to put the whole mount if possible into a freezer for at least a day (24 hours) fumigating will not work ont he eggs. This process will also kill Dermistids.

Well nctaxiit happened this past weekend, I received a call from a customer about a bug problem in a large collection. I went to check it out and dermestids were all over his mounts. This was beyond what I could take care of, so I called Dave from Miller Trophy Room and after talking to him and checking there web site I sent them to my customer. Thanks for the info, I am 62 years young and still learning. Thanks again.

Rich - I only knew everything in my teens, I find out how little I know about every day. I figure when I quit learning, I will be dead. I will send that info as soon as I can. Sorry to hear about your client. I hate to hear about his problem.
Critters - We call them carpet moths. But the same thing as dermestids, there is a reason for them to get there. I know bird seed, kept inside, will bring them. Dog food and various other things are how it usually starts. The end result is the mounts, the hair still retains the protein that they need for food. Freezing will kill them but it will not stop reinfestation.
