I was into black powder for 2 years. On year 3, I went to shoot and pulled back the trigger and rust dusted my index finger, hammer did not move. The only thing I could figure is that I stored it downstairs in the box and moisture got in. I pulled the slug and cleaned it up. and put it on the wall. That was five years ago.
My question is, if I rebuilt the trigger assembly would the barrle be ok? There has to be some rust in there from five years. I want to get back into black powder but I don' t want to blow my head off either.
Are there any Gun Smiths out there or anyone else that could put in a word or two.

without someone with real blackpowder gun know how and seeing it in person its ahrd to say...the whole thing may be rusted up....take it all apart and use a light and see whats rusted and whats not....take it to a gunsmith if you cant tell....a gunsmith will look it over either free or pretty cheaply id imagine...i rather be safe then sorry....expesially if its not safe.....that leasve a decint sized bomb 4 inches from your face and hands.....not good imo.....id really have it checked out by a smith.....good luck

I recommend having the breeech-plug removed and the thrads on the plug and barrel breech examined, scrubbing out the barrel, and examine the condition of the bore before shooting. The breech threads are particulary important...
