RE: Weatherby Vanguard vs, Winchester 70 vs Rem 700

Good choice, I think the Howa 1500/Vanguard/S&W 1500 and Mossberg 1500 are/were the sleepers of the bolt action rifle world. I have 6 Rem 700's and 2 Sakos and I like them but I've owned three Howas...

RE: Three heavy barrel choice

.75 MOA at 800 yards is a 6" group. Not impossible but it may be tough with a factory rifle. If this is your goal, get the PSS in 308.With real good optics in a properly setup scope mounting system and...

RE: Wal-Mart Weatherby Takes 1st Buck

I agree with "stubblejumper", the Weatherby Vanguard, or any other Howa, has got to be the best deal out there on a new rifle.Even better than the Rem 700 ADL..?I've owned three of them now, still have...

RE: Remington Mountain Rifle

Go for the Mountain Rifle in 260 Rem.With the 100-120's it'll be so close to the 25-06 you'll never notice the difference in the field.A bonus is the 140's that you can get for the .264" bore.The...

RE: .220 Swift Parent Case?

6mm Lee Navy case, slightly shortened, necked down of course and the rim trimmed to "standard" .473".

RE: Winchester Model 670: To Buy Or Not?

The Winchester Model 670 is a Model 70 push feed.It was their "economy" Model 70 before the "Ranger" models.I had two of them in 30-06 and 243.Have seen them in 270 also.

RE: 7mm Ultra Mag vs. the 300 Ultra Mag

Problem is, it is quite difficult to launch a 160gr bullet from a 7mm Rem Mag at 3100fps. Realistically, you're looking at 2900fps from this cartridge with that bullet. The 7mm RUM, however, or...

RE: ??Would you trade for this????

In the time it took you to type this post, I would have had the Ruger in hand. A Remington pump is an abomination in my eyes. Pumps are good for shotguns, not for serious rifles.

RE: Need help selecting a custom 22-250

I'd check out that "custom". Depending on what Rem 700 you were planning on buying, it would take two to three times that to put together a rifle like the one you've described.

RE: 7mm Ultra Mag vs. the 300 Ultra Mag

3DNWV, I have no doubts that anyone including "stonecold" can't hit a deer at 400 yards. The point I was trying to make was that if someone had doubts about hitting a deer at 400 yards+ with a 7mm...

RE: 7mm Ultra Mag vs. the 300 Ultra Mag

Actually it may surprise some to know that at 300 and 400 yards a 160 lauched at 3100 from a 7 Rem Mag will shoot flatter and have more energy than a 180 from a 300 Win Mag at launched at 3100.

My...

RE: 7mm Ultra Mag vs. the 300 Ultra Mag

Stone Cold(good handle),I expect to take some flak for this, but I say if you have doubts about hitting a deer at 400-500 yards with your 7mm Rem Mag(my 7 Rem Mag launches a 140 ballistic Tip at 3300...

RE: .270 vs. 7mm Rem Mag

I have a 270 and a 7 Rem Mag and a hunting buddy has a 280(we both have 300 Win Mags as our "real" big game rifles)My 7 Rem Mag will chrony a 140 Ballistic Tip at 3300-3335fps, with 67 grs of IMR...

RE: Sissy loads for 6 mm rem

Just get a good used 222 or 223 and keep your 6mm barrel naked.

RE: Question on the 270 winchester

In the recoil equation the weight of the powder charge carries more "weight' then the weight of the bullet. In theory a 30-06 and a 270,both shooting 150's with the same powder charge "should" recoil...

RE: has this happened to you

I had it happen until I get tired of it and investigated.Turned out the chamfering tool was pushing up a small burr in the neck. I give them a couple strokes with a chamber brush, nylon or...

RE: Down to three varmint rifles, help me choose!

Go with the Rem 700 VS, the synthetic stocked version.I have one;a VSSF in 223 and my brother has an early 24" VS in 223.Both are great shooters after trigger adjusting.I've seen many of these rifles...

RE: 280 Rem.

If you already have a 270, skip the 280. Only minor advantage comes with bullets over 150 grs.Go for the 300 Win Mag to avoid having too much overlap in cartridge and a 180/308 at 3100 is a good jump...

RE: What's a good varmint gun, all around?

Get a good 223 bolt action for varmints.Factory ammo is half the price or less than 22-250,243 etc. Then get yourself a good 270/280/7-08/308 etc. for a deer rifle. The dual purpose rifle is a way over...

RE: Remington Mod. 700 Sendero

I think the Sendero is about 8-1/2 lbs in the stainless/fluted version.A regualar 700 BDL in a magnum cartridge is about 7-1/2 lbs.A pound doesn't seem like much. A hunting buddy sometimes carrys a...

RE: Remington Mod. 700 Sendero

I don't think you'll hear many "bad points" unless it's from the Remington Haters.Lots of guys will tell you that a Sendero is "too heavy" to carry after elk.Don't listen to them. It's not much (if...

RE: Your Favorite 223 Loads

Like PaJack says, they are all different. My VSSF likes 27.5 grs of WW748 under a moly coated 50 gr VMax.Works for me.

RE: 77/22 or 10/22 which would you buy?

I've had a 10-22 since '90 and a 77/22 Allweather since '92 or '93,not sure which. The 10-22 is still like new. I took the scope off of it a few years ago it hasn't been fired in maybe 5 years. The 77...

RE: i want a new rifle....it's driving me nuts!
