Default Case stuck in die

What could be the cause of a case getting stuck in a full length sizing die? The cases are well lubed but this is the second time it' s happened. When the case gets about 1/2" from being all the way up into the die it' s really hard to push the rest of the way up (and i mean hard) and there are scratches on one side of the case in one spot on the primer end about 1/2" long when i pull it back out. Any suggestions? Thank You!

assuming the case is properly lubricated, I' d return the die to the manufacturer.

However, I' d bet the problem is a matter of lubrication.....who made the die?

Lubing or defective die is all I could think of also. Send it back to the manufacturer. You' ll need a new die anyway. I' ve never figured out how to get a stuck case out of one. Real pain.

If you can get the decapper out of the die you can try to punch the stuck case out . RCBS makes a kit for this and that' s what it looks like to me.

The process is usually to drill and tap a 3/8-16 thread in the area where the primer pocket is.

Unscrew the spinded that has the ID neck sizer button...(which also has the decapping pin ) back to allow room for the drill and tap...as I recall the tap drill is a 5/16...

find about twenty washers that have a 1/2 inch hole in them (Larger for a magnum case) and pile the washers around the stuck case such that the washers are sitting on the end of the sizing die with the cartridge case in the washer holes.

Using a 3/8-16 bolt just insert into the tapped hole, and when it head of the bolt butts against the washers, you can just twist the case out.

The bolt in the tapped hole has enormous pulling power and will pull the case out with some pressure in a good box end wrench or socket wrench. The die may have to be clampen in a vise to prevent it from turning.

Hope this helps.

Use a 3/8-16 tap for most .30-06 size cases and magnums...use a 1/4-20 tap on the .223 cases.

You gotta lube the inside of the case neck a little when full length sizing.I like a Q-tip.If not they wanna stick, and stretch the case also.I like the Lee lube for this,a little bit is all that is needed.Opinions vary on which lube is best.

The only time I have ever had problems with the case getting stuck is because of lace of lube. But I have never had one get stuck before. Are you lubing the inside of the case as tula asked? I usually just put a little oil in the lid, and dip the cast neck first into it. I do this every few rounds, lube the outside when it starts to stick a little.

I' ve had a die or two that started to stick, even with extra lube. When that happens, I take the die all apart and thoroughly wash it with solvent. Then I wipe dry and warm it slightly to remove any moisture. then I sprayall the working surfaces with a teflon spray and let it dry completely. It takes a lot less case lube then to handle the job.
