Default RE: Case stuck in die

The process is usually to drill and tap a 3/8-16 thread in the area where the primer pocket is.

Unscrew the spinded that has the ID neck sizer button...(which also has the decapping pin ) back to allow room for the drill and tap...as I recall the tap drill is a 5/16...

find about twenty washers that have a 1/2 inch hole in them (Larger for a magnum case) and pile the washers around the stuck case such that the washers are sitting on the end of the sizing die with the cartridge case in the washer holes.

Using a 3/8-16 bolt just insert into the tapped hole, and when it head of the bolt butts against the washers, you can just twist the case out.

The bolt in the tapped hole has enormous pulling power and will pull the case out with some pressure in a good box end wrench or socket wrench. The die may have to be clampen in a vise to prevent it from turning.

Hope this helps.

Use a 3/8-16 tap for most .30-06 size cases and magnums...use a 1/4-20 tap on the .223 cases.
