There's a place in Portage La Prairie as well. I think it's called Macdonalds's Sporting Goods or something like that. I've heard he has good prices and will order pretty much anything in for you as well.
Ron carries CVA muzzleloaders and Thompson Centers at Heights. Nice prices as well. He's also got a bunch of supplies like bullets and such. I can't remember ever seeing powder though.I like to get what I can from him. It's nice to support the little guys that have good service. SIR.......phhfffff. Don't care about them. Too manyidiots with attitude working there.
I head to Cabela's at least once a year too. I was justthere this weekend. Spent about 2 hours browsing around. I got some new boots and rain gear. I got 800 gram thinsulate Rocky Lynx boots for $100 US. At SIR the 400 gram ones are $180 so it was a good deal. Also gota Silent Pro rain suit for $120.SIR has nothing to compare with this.
One thing to remember about Cabela's. Just because something is in the catalogue doesn't mean the GF store will have it. They aren't big enough to carry everything in the catalogue so if you've got your heart set on something, it's best to phone ahead 1st.
Plus, I don't think asa Canadian, you are allowed to have ammunition or powder. They will sell it to you and the Canadian border guys will let you bring it in but if the American cops find you with it, you're in trouble. Something to do with the new terrosist laws. You might want to check that out too if you're planning on buying any of that stuff. You could always order it. I've also noticed that catalogue prices are sometimes cheaper than the store prices.
Good luck. You'll love ML hunting. It's a great season!

Cyrus, thanks for the info on the powder and the ammunition. I wasn’t aware of that. I had checked with the custom officer and they hadn’t mentioned anything. All they told me was that you could bring up to 16 lbs. across the border. I’ll have to check it out. I have to agree with you on S.I.R. Sometimes they sure have an attitude problem.

Ron @ Heights archery is a d!*khead and I will not give him one cent unless I cannot get what I want anywhere else. Heartland archery gets all my business for archery and for ML supplies, well I have my load that works so I go to SIR once a year and stock up for that then am good to go.Wholesale Sportsfor most other things i need.

randyh, I have used the TC breech/nipple grease in the past but prefer CVA slick Breech/nipple grease (hard to find up here in canada lately and wholesale does not stock it!). Any way I would put on a layer of the TC anti seize on the threads then wrap it with plumbers grade teflon tape for the range(Pink colour not white). It can be bought for 2 bucks at almost any hardware/building supply store and will last years! When I hunt I just use the pink teflon tape on the breech threads and the TC anti-seize on the nipple...never had a stuck breech. I will say if you do a range session and shoot a fair amount check the breech every 10 shots and re-apply if sticky. Also remove the plug after your last shot and you will not have any troubles. The pink teflon alone will also work but you must check it when on the range faithfully, if shooting hotter loads every 5 shots or so would be my suggestion. Also make sure to only finger tighten these components!
The CVA Slick grease I mentioned is awesome (if you can find it)and had no problems with it alone. I make sure all threads are coated liberally and remove the excess pushed back into the breech area with a q-tip.
Best of luck.

We really need another sporting goods store to open here in Winnipeg eg Cabela's or Bass pro.S.I.R is getting away with robbery because they know their the only gig in town other than Wholesale sports, formerly Farmers supply.Cabela's would do so well here I don't know why they haven't thought of opening a store here.

trac209 - I think the competition would be good for the local stores. But I don't think Cabela's has any plans to open anything here soon. They are not yet anywhere in Canada, so Winnipeg would be far down the list should they choose to open in our country.
