You did the right thing by calling the shoot ,But it is time for a change too many people falling and getting hurt and the weather is way to unpredictable. Me and my wife love it there but i will not shoot there anymore. Thoso of you that are unhappy what do you say after someone gets killed buy lighting because they could not get off the mountain in time and remember our children are shooting too.

if there was a real threat, why didnt snowshoe shut down everything. they' re activities continued. they could have delayed a while longer. instead they just called off the shoot. what would we have done if they called off fri and sat. who becomes the world champ then? how many people planned a year in advance to go there and have the shoot cancelled?

Nothing personal bobk but you' re the only one I' ve heard that supported the decision. Something needs to be done. Cancelling a shoot because of the threat of lightning??? come on now. If any of us go outside during the hot and humid weather don' t we assume that same risk? I could understand if it was storming but I got called off the range just to come out to a resort that was super busy with the lifts running and everything. Something needs to be done and it better be done fast or the IBO is gonna go straight into the ground. Archery took a big hit this past weekend. All you heard walking around was unhappy people not coming back and not rejoining the organization.

I can understand delaying the shoot for lightning, safety should be first!
BUT,that doesn' t mean we couldn' t have shot after the red alert was over.I don' t care if it took a little longer on sunday or not.
The IBO happily takes money from 3000 people to shoot there, plus a lot of money from Snowshoe to bring so much bussiness down there,+Plus fees from all the vendors that set up.How much money was refunded? This should be a little better organized operation with all that money changing hands!

I agree bobk, Ken and I' m sure the IBO directors and Snoeshoe were involved in making that decision. I' m sure that the decision was based on everyones safety as thier first priority. I believe Ken and his directors are more than capable of making the right call in such a circumstance. The decision was made and that' s that. We all have to live with it and we should support it. All the complaining in the " world" can' t change what happened. I seen Ken cornered near the IBO booth and the childish verbal abuse he encountered was absolutly uncalled for. At the anouncement Saturday afternoon he encountered it again.
We all got in 20 targets Friday and we should be happy we did. I was fortunate enough to make the cut in the MBO and got to shoot today (Sunday). Fell apart, but I was there. The finals were based off of 20 targets instead of 40. If I hadn' t made the cut I would have been slightly disappointed as I may have picked it up a bit Saturday. But I would still have accepted the decision as that' s that, there' s nothing I can do about it.
I love Snowshoe Mtn. I think it' s a great place to hold our event with our families. There' s plenty of accommadations, centrally located on the eastern seaboard. Unfortunatly at 4000' plus elavation, the weather and fog can be a problem. They said they had great clear weather last week while preparations were being made.
The fog screwed up the finals last year and here it happened again. So maybe a location change should be concidered at somepoint in the future.
Ken and the IBO Directors can count on my continued support, as for what they do for the sport of bowhunting is unsurpassed by any organization in the world

Elk Huntr,
What you said about falling apart was exactly my point when I asked on Saturday why we couldn' t just move the Saturday shoot to Sunday (I wasn' t one of the rowdy ones, I just asked the question). The answer I got was there weren' t enough tee times to do that. Why wouldn' t there be enough times? There were quite a few groups that were already finished on Saturday when the red alert came out and all courses had groups on every target. Shooters who started at the latest possible time on Friday, which was 2:00 finished at around 6:00. So if we put everyone back on their courses Sunday where they left off on Saturday, and started fresh with the 11:30 shooting time which was where we quit on Saturday, means we finish 4 1/2 hrs before 6:00, or 1:30. (Check my addition and subtraction, but it' s close.) The other good point to this argument would have been that they wouldn' t have had to set up any new courses for the shoot-off. I' m sure the majority of shooters there, if asked, would have given their Sunday up for the opportunity to finish their 40 targets. So we let the top 5 scores on each course have a shoot-off. The World Championship was based on 40 targets without a shoot-off last year, why was it so important to have a shoot-off this year? The way this was handled about 400 people were happy and 1800 weren' t. This way everyone would have been happy except for the ones that would have fallen apart on Sunday and lost their top 5 spot to one of us just under the cut who had a legitimate chance at taking that spot. Of course this is just my opinion and obviously it doesn' t matter to anyone but me.

elk hunter, how was i safer on the ski lift, or walking out in the open on top the hill, then i was in the woods. i am sure that your responce was because you got to shoot today, when the rest of us that got screwed drove home. the verbal abuse that ken took sat was nothing compared to the screwing the rest of us got. a 1 hour longer delay and everyone could have shot sat. instead i was riding the ski lift and walking the mini golf course with a metal lightning rod in my hand. that didnt matter to snowshoe. and when all that lightning was striking saturday night they didnt try to stop us from going to the bars to spend money. safety didnt matter, money did.

Pinmaster,
You are exactly right. There was plenty of time to get it all in on Sunaday. As far as the last ones going out at 2:00 that is not completely true. My uncle was scheduled to go out at 4:00 on Saturday. We could have gotten all our targets in on Sunday and not had the shoot off and there would have been many more happy people. But the powers that be will not listen to those of us that support this great sport. The ASA is looking better each and every tournament.

I think that it is time for the IBO to re-think the whole IBO WORLD Championship.
In two of the four years that the shoot has been held at Snow Shoe Mountain there has been problems. Two of the four years has had weather problems not only with lightning but also with rain and fog. I shoot the MCBH (Over 60 years old) and for the last two years me and my fellow archers of the same class have been subjected to unsafe and horrible conditions going from target to target. Walking from target to target is bad enought when you have to climb up and down hills and then when you add rain to bad conditions it makes them much worse. Friday we got to our shooting station on time and were called on time and then after walking for 31 minutes we reached our first target. After completing our 20 targets we had farther to walk back because there was no available transportation and we were in the middle of the hill so no Ski lift. At 69 years old I made it OK and I hope that everyone in my class did but I think that some consideration to age should be one of the set up considerations. This has happened at Nelsonville, Ohio for the last two years. My point here is that the IBO has a duty to protect all of its members when ever possible but it does not make any effort to do any more than collect the shooting fee from everyone.
Communications is a big problem here and if this organization is going to continue to grow and fulfill it' s stated mission, it is going to have to get better representatives in the field and expand the representatives into all the states where they have members. The input from these Reps will have to be given more consideration and the BOD should be making announcements about policy changes well in advance and future IBO Championships and locations should be announced well in advance with a mass mailing or some other system.
This is just a few comments from one individual but nothing will be solved until we make our views know and not only to the BOD but also to State reps who should be keeping in touch or at least making themselves know to the members in their area.
