Phil: Alot of 8' s would be dead deer in the woods. If the Ibo wants to make a smaller, tougher to hit scoring ring than so be it. It is up to us to hit it and score better. I have shot alot of 3-d' s and I would take alot of low 8' s over the high 10 in the woods. And alot of down hill, up hill, or angled shots would need to be hit in 5 teritory instead of 10' s to put the animal down in the woods. So the point about real hunting results is weak at best. 40 10' s is great shooting but if their is a smaller scoring ring (and there is now) 26 10' s, 10 11' s and 4 8' s is better. Just like a spot target 60 9' s is good but 60 10' s are better and 60 x' s are still better yet. A lot of shooter can get lucky and grab a ten line on a deer size animal, but you don' t often miss a yardage by 3 and get the 11 or punch the trigger and get the 11. So you get rewarded for a perfect shot when you hit the 11 ring. Sounds good to me. Bill

Thanks Big O for opening up a debate on the 11-ring. It seems the majority of the shooters are in favor of it. I, on the other hand am not. I liked it better when it was just a 10-x, mainly because it keeps the scoreboard more in line. Now you see scores of 400 and up by 20 to 25 shooters in the open class. Sure I like the extra 15-16 points I can get on a 40 target course, but I think the scoreboard would look better with a top score of 398 or 396 and everyone else falling in below that, the way it used to be. That gap on the scoreboard seems to have widened with some shooters now shooting 19 & 14 up. I hope it goes back to being just a 10x. !

Just where would the " x" ring be?
If it is where the 11 ring is now then the guy who shoot 40 10' s is still not going to win cause he hit no 11 or x' s
I am all in favour of the 11 ring cause you get the reward of making a good shot.
leave the x ring for the spot shooters.
I know I for one wont wait around to watch 10 or 15 guys shoot off in each class.
As for stretching out the yardages I dont agree with either cause we are trying to bring new people into our sport and if they go away with no arrows left then they are not going to come back.
I have seen clubs down here that do stretch the yardages and they are loosing members.
At our club we keep the distances reasonible and get a good turn out and every one goes home happy and with a quiver full of arrows.

THE 11 RING IS THE GREATEST THING TO HAPPEN SINCE THE INVENTION OF THE CHEVEROLET
get real criminals.....how much better does it get than a dead center shot...pinwheel...picture perfect.....
how many times have you just been practicing out in your backyard with ole trusty...the back yard buck....and just nailed a pinwheel kill shot...only wishing someone else was there to high five you and brag about your shooting abilities??? tons.....and if you had that 11 ring there....you would have than said....ok...self....lets see how many times i can nail it dead on....only to fire your next shot off and miss the 11 ring....often i bet......
so, now the 11 ring gives you hope....gives you reason....gives you a chance to be somebody and now you dont like it???????? WTF.....
come on criminals.....whats the matter.....you cant misjudge it and get that " lucky" 12....so now you dont want me to know you suck and cant hit it dead center...well...im going right now online to look up them scores and see just how many of you are nailing the center shot.....if it aint you....get your hump out side and practice more.....cause the bowtie is coming for you.....

What ever happened to the old saying aim small miss small.. I think that everyone in 3d or hunting should follow this simple rule, and that is what the 11 ring is all about.....................

Ken will there be a survey at Snowshoe? If not, why not? Triple crown will hit far fewer shooters, Snowshoe will hit more, all IBO members, all IBO shooters.
Many who care don' t shoot the triple crown.

It would be very difficult to do a survey at the world. There is not a central point that could be a focal point to do a survey.
We thought of this in the past and several years ago when we did try it the results were as bad as mail surveys, response was around 3%.
Nelsonville has a single registration point. All shooters pass through it and go upstairs to get score cards and range assignments. That is where the survey will be turned in.
The finals of the National Triple Crown are a good representation and have in the past given a solid reading of the total.

Ken, I see your reasoning, but how about something along the lines of an additional survey at the worlds, we all get a packet from the resort when we check into the hotel, stick it in here with instructions to drop it by the IBO booth in the vendors area. Or even have the survey at the IBO booth.
Little to no extra work.
