I don't think a 3pt rule would work during 6 day firearm the way the gun hunters drive around here, I would rather see one buck per season rule.

3 point rule works fine in zone 3...the improvement in herd quality/rack size is tremendous versus 4 years ago...as far as 1 buck...Jersey will never do it. They will lose way to much revenue...not to mention the herd numbers to land ratio...most of my area is developed to the teeth...They limit season to one buck, they also lose the herd management of the does that go along with the tags they sell for each season...that would be disaterous for the herd in the State...just my 2 pennies...

Be aware that the Automobile Insurance Companies are a big reason NJ has such liberal bag limits on deer. The deer/auto collisions in this state are higher than ever and its costing the Ins. Co's millions in their precious dollars. They lobby the feds to boost limits so herds are smaller, ergo less deer to be hit by cars.
Also, our coyote populations are growing at such a rate that fawn kills are are up somewhere near 20%. Add black bear fawn kills and that equals even more deer.
I've seen plenty of deer this year and shot a nice 6 pt second day of 6 day firearm. Let alot of does and a Y buck walk.
I hunt zone 5 and 13. Lots of 'yotes in 5!
I'd opt for a trophy limitation of 3 points per side if it would make a difference on a large scale. Best bucks I see are on private land; small 10 acre parcels with houses on all sides! Bow territory!!!

Spike and a doe so far from Ft. Dix. Heading out again Monday, and then Ft. dix the week after.
Airborneguy, you better check the regs next time you hunt there. As I read it, Fort Dix has a 3 points on one side requirement for bucks. If you killed a spike, it might not have been legal.

now your onto something! we as hunters should get auto insurance discounts for providing a service. all in all my season was the worst in 30 years. i passed on several deer. the numbers were bad in the southern parts of the state i gather. the pocket areas seemed to do well or better than most years. im talking about back yard and small type woods properties. north jersey seemed about average to a little less for a season. winter was not harsh last year and this year is even better for deer so you would think the numbers would be good but the liberal bag limits and seasons are catching up.

If the spikes are less than 3 inches, its a legal doe. It was checked in like every other deer. That applies in most states. I wish I was a little mroe cognizant of the spikes, but 2 people told me that the deer was too old to have spikes anyway and genetically inferior. I am not much for aging deer so I have to go with them.

Oh no not the genetically inferior spike theory...yikes...never understood the "its a legal doe" thing...some game laws need to be reviewed...

Again just 2 pennies..
