Slep in Sat morning as planned. Went out about 2:30 Sat afternoon, had one little fork horn buck show up about 3:30. First deer I have seen here this year. Hot dog. Since it was pouring down Sat night when wento to bed turned alarm off on little clock. Went out Sunday about 2:30 again. decided if forky showed up he may be in trouble. Takeing what is offered. Nope just had a little button show up and he walked down my path. Let him walk. That's all folks. Have a feeling due to age am turning into a evening only hunter. Got the feeling that retirement is soon to follow. Oh well so goes age and hunting alone. I think I may be just getting tired of hunting alone.

You sound like me IndianaHick. I have taken a liking lately to the whole sleep in and hunt evenings thing myself. Normally i could get up any morning regardless of sleep and still go hunt, not as much anymore and im still pretty young. I also hunt alone and i hate it. Especially since i have 3 uncles who all deer hunt, they keep their spots to themselves though, greedy SOB's. My dad and brother used to hunt but not anymore.

Oh well, im getting ready to head out now to the new spot, hopefully nobody hunts there during the week.

I'm lucky I have a few close friends that I hunt with...and thank God for that. No way I could have dragged andloaded up a 185lbs buck on my own

I've gone out twice this year by myself...only due to the Packers playing on Sunday/Monday night (my friends are from Wisco).

I am definately a morning hunter. I love to get out there very early..and star gaze for an hour or so. I also have seen 3x more deer this year in the mornings..opposed to afternoons.

Sat. morning was nice,I spooked deer out from under my stand on my way in, in the pitch black dark, nowI am dissappointed, soI sit in my stand and listen to gunshots from every direction for about four hours, with a brisk 100mphsustained wind in my face, thenI saw a doe about 200 yards out and quartering away, NowI am aggrevated (sp...), So after sitting in my stand from 6 am till noon and only seeing one deerI decide to get down and go grab some lunch. Stopped by the local checkstation, where a guy was checking in an 11-point that dressed at 225 LBS!!, with mass likeI have never seen in an Indiana buck, so nowI am fired up again andI decide to hunt in my climber which has been hung on the same tree year round for 3 years, well not anymore sometime in the last 3 weeks somebody had stollen my climber, my dad's climber and my dad's metal ladder stand, and upon further inspection someone had also shot up my old Bronco thatI keep at the farm with what looks to be a 9mm, 12ga. slugs and 12ga. #6 shot, drove it on a flat and ran the tire off of the rim. there is one other person that hunts this property besides me and my dad, and he drives around on a quad, because he is faking disability,I know he did it there were quad tracks leading right up to every stand that was stollen, and this guy who claims to be a dedicated hunter, doesnt show up on opening day, I hopeIsee him, I want to introduce him to MR. Ruger 357 Magnum.Sorry it was long winded I just had to vent.

Hunted the new place tonight for the first time. Arrived at 2 to find nobody there. Went ahead and got down to my stand and low and behold there are 5 empty slug cartridges underneath it. Evidently the SOB that was there sat night was in my stand! The least the moron could have done was pick up the cartridges to hide the evidence.

Anyways, let me first say that i totally blew it tonight. I missed an 8 pointer right at dark. I think i missed low, he was out in the field and it only looked like 60 yards max, when i got down to look for blood it looked a lot further, im gonna say close to 90 yards. I'll have to remember that for next time, im not used to hunting open fields and my distance judgement was off. He wasnt a monster but he was bigger then anything else i have been seeing. I saw 2 bucks, both were 8 pointers, they nearly went at it in front of me. They got all bristled up and stared off at each other but nothing came of it. I also seen 13 doe. This place is LOADED with deer. I had passed on the buck i shot at 3 different times, but each time he looked a little better so i decided to shoot. I was stunned i missed. I may have to get out my muzzy to hunt this place, im not sure the 12 guage can cut it unless the deer come in closer.

What type of shotgun is it? What slug are you using? Rifled barrel? I have a Mossberg 500, rifled, use both3" Lightfield's and BRI's...deadly well over 100 yards. I took the 1.75x4 scope off and put a 3x9 on this past summer...exact same scope that's on my muzzy..although I should put a 4x12 on that.

Pat, thats what im using. A mossberg 500 rifled slug barrell. I got a red dot sight with the cantilever mount. Shooting Winchester BRI's. I know the gun is on, i tore up a paper plate with 3 different brands of slugs last monday. The BRI's shot the best for me. I think i simply understimated distance, should have aimed a tad higher then what i did. Had i known that he was as far out as what he really was i would not have even shot. I dont feel comfortable taking longer shots. I'll know for next time though.

Bigbuck, I too have a Mossy 500, ribbed slug barrel, it likes Remington solid coppers real well. Have busted deer out over 100 yards with it and sited it dead on for 75. Right now I am useing a Knight 50 sited in at 75 yards. Getting a much longer shot in the woods that I am currently hunting is almost impossable.

Went out this afternoon. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Got there a little later than intended around 3:30. Went to one area and started to look for a place to go up with the Lone Wolf. Seen an area that looked like it would look down into the ravine and had quite abit of viewable area. Looked up and there was a hangon. Left. Went 2-300 yards down the arm and went up. Sat there about 40 minutes and it started to rain. Got down 4:50 and went home. Wet. Do not like to hunt in the rain any more. To damn old. Getting ready to start 4th year of remission. Immune system still shakey. Will more than likely get sick and not be able to hunt Wednesday. Hopefully will. Going to hit the vitamin C really hard.

Wonder how many people I am sharing this place with. I know of at least 3.
