Default 150gr. 30-06sprg

which 150gr. do you all think is the best for shots under 100yds?

just curious because i will be using 150gr. out of my M1 garand for hunting this year. i do like the 165gr. sierra gameking's in shots like i took two years ago. at 40yds.

anyone still use the 150gr.? and if so what can yo recomend me as being a fine bullet that will do the job.

( i know that i should find a brand that shoots great ) but i would like feed back on other brands. i have heard highly on the federal classic HI-SHOK's

I would use something in 150 gr. The deer I shot last year with my M1 I was using a 165 gr Hornady interlock which didn't expand very well and really didn't give impressive performance. Running a 150 gr bullet at around 2800 fps is probably going to be alot better than a 165 gr bullet at 2500-2600 fps.

Quilly, you may consider the hornady interlock or possible the interlock BTSP, however at close range a boattail in a lighter/faster offering may over expand and cause less penetration. I assume this for deer!

I have had great results with Hornady offerings over the years, ie; last fall I took a 5x5 Whitetail and Calf Moose out of 7 rem mag with 150 gr Interlock SP. The Buck was 175 yards in a hard quartering away and folded on the spot, the calf moose I took around 75-100 yards through the H/L and dropped instantly. Both yielded clean thru's with good expansion but not over expansion.

I think out of a 30 cal at shots under 100 the 150 gr interlock SP for deer should fare nicely.

I have had decent luck with the new Triple Shock Barnes. For shots under 100yards, you can shoot about anything from 125gr to 200gr with great results from a M1. Idealy, for deer, I like 165gr Sierra for my 308win, but like 180gr for 30-06.

Quilly, did you have trouble with the 308 ammo. Its ok if you did. I understand shipping out of your state might be rough.

Almost any 150 grain bullet out of a .30-06 and under 100 yards will do the job. Makes little difference if you buy Remington, Winchester, Federal or other ammo or if you reload.....dead deer is dead deer!!!

Like some of the others have said--at that range, anything will pretty much be up to the job. I like the Remington Core-Lockt 150 gr. PSP's myself.

I like 165 best for some reason but I like core-lokt bullets. I reload and the bullet is cheap in price and works well.
