Default Difference between 150gr and 170 gr for a 30/30?

What are the advantages/disadvantages and differences between a 150 and 170 gr shell for a .30/.30 Winchester?

The difference is typical...the bigger bullet is slower but probably packs a little more punch at shorter ranges. It depends a LOT on the type of bullet used. Remington has pretty good ballistic tables... heres one for the 30-30 Win.... http://www.remington.com/ammo/ballistics/centerfire/results.asp?cal=27

Interesting side note: a lot of current research is calling into question the idea that a bigger, slower bullet is a better brush bullet.

150g faster flatter shooter
170g slower hits harder
distance is the truer measure up close they both will do the job
between 100-200yards bullet drops 4-6 inches

Hey Scott, Just got 30/30 21 inch barrelfor my Contender this spring and asked myself the same question. Bought a box of 170's and 150's Rem. core-locksand started shooting 100 yards. The 170's shoot tighter groups but if the 150's did I would've used them. Deer won't know the diff. NY just passed rifle bill so I guess I'll leave the 7mm08 pistol barrel home.
