Default Accuracy with 150gr 777

After two weeks, I think I have found it. Well acceptable accuracy. With my new disc, elite, I found 95gr of pyrodex and 240gr XTP would give me 1.5 to 2" groups at 100 yards. Which for me, I am very happy with. But I got this rifle on a quest to get more speed and flatter trajectory. So I slipped that recipie in my pocket and searched for more Horsepower.

This consistented of a combination of 777 pellets and loose powder, and pyrodex pellets and loose powder, 250gr Barnes EZ, 240gr XTP mags, 240gr powerbelts, 250gr SST, 300gr SST.

I found 250gr Barnes expanders to give me 3" groups at 100 yards with the 3-777 pellets. at 2000fps give or take 100fps. Had trouble getting good chrono results. This is acceptable, but would really like to have those 1.5" groups I got with 95gr pyrodex. So my quest continues with the loose 777.

here is my problem, I have screwed up my ramrod with the barnes. These are the toughest sabots to push down. The end piece is coming out now.

It seems those tight fitting sabots will do that once in a while. Looks like it is time to get a T/C Rugged Rod or one of the other really good ramrods out there on the market.

I want to say, very interesting range results. Did you by chance see what the 95 grains of Pyrodex and the 240 grain XTP had for speed? The reason I ask is I have shot the same load out of my Wolverine. Like you, accuracy was excellent. Another load I have had really good results with were the Knight Lead Bullets with sabots. They are a pure lead hollow point that weigh 310 grains and look like a T/C Cheapshot. If I put 85 grains of Goex FFFg under them the accuracy is exceptional.

My 22" barrel on the Wolverine would never benifit from anything more then 120 grains of powder if even that. I shoot a lot of the times with FFFg size for the additional power it supplies, I am just careful about the loads I put in the rifle. These Knights are great shooters. I never shot the Barnes Expanders yet. I have sure heard a lot of good things about them.

Where I hunt, I might get a 100 yard shot and that is a big "might." More common would be the 60 and under range. I really do not see the need for the maximum loads. Anthing near 100 grains will do the trick for me. Good luck in your search and I hope the ramrod problem gets better.

Maybe its cause I got a 22" barrel but I only get 1450fps with 95gr of pyrodex and 240gr XTP mags. With with this 26" rifle, I can get over 1600fps. Also, when I clocked it with my wolverine, I was using green sabots, and now black.
