I checked out the barrel break in procedure on Brownings website and was wondering what type of solvent would be best for removing the copper fouling between shots. Some solvents appear to require soaking and I need one that will remove copper at the range. I have used Outers for years in my 27 year old BDL but wanted to start out right with my new A Bolt Stainless Stalker. Thanks!

I've found that I like Birchwood-Casey Bore Scrubber for general cleaning and removing light copper and nitro fouling. For heavier copper fouling I prefer Sweet's 7.62.

Wipeout seems to be the latest and greatest......although I've used Sweets for several years without any trouble.

For breakin, sweets or CR10 would be the easiest fastest way. I use wipeout when I can let it soak. Not very practical for breakin.

Here's food for thought.

When you break in a barrell, all you are really doing is polishing the lans. The old shoot-clean-shoot-clean method, in my opinion, is just an extremely inefficcient way of doing that.

This is what I do when I get a new gun.

I take bore brush and favorite solvent to clean the cosmoline (sp?) out of the barrell.

Then I take a patch and put Flitz metal polish on it and take 50-60 strokes with it.

I re-clean with solvent and run patches down the barrell until they are dry.

My new barrell is now broken in! I save all the shoot-clean steps.
