Default scope question for a 44 carbine

I'm looking for a short compact scope to put on a 44 carbine. Could I use a shotgun or rimfire scope? They seem to the a little cheaper and smaller which is what I'm looking for, but I don't if they will hold up to the recoil of the 44 being they are made for different applications. I want a compact because of the overall small size of the firarm its self so if anybody has any suggestions or can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

How cheap?

Take a look at the Bushnell Dusk till Dawn series. Cheap reliable scopes.

Shotgun scope yes, rimfire scopeNO. I was in the samefix a couple years ago and found a Simmons Deerfield4X scope on Ebay that looks good on my Marlin Guide Gun.
Check out the local gun shops, I knowthe one near me has a box full of used scopes that he sells for a resonable price.

I'll tell you what I have on my old .44 ruger carbine- an equally old weaver steel tube K2.5 w/microtrac. Any fixed 2x-3x will do great, cost less, and do everything you need for the range of that particular cartridge.

I put a Leupold 1.5 x 5 on my old Ruger 44 semi auto rifle, yes it cost a little more, but now i have a scope that will work up close or further away, and i know my scope will last for the rest of my life.

If i ever sell the rifle, i'll just keep my good scope for the next rifle...
