Default question about ruger 10/22 + carbine...are they one in the same

Quick ?, if im buying a ruger 10/22, is it a carbine. actually, while ima t it, what does carbine mean? that always confused me. do i have to look for a specifically carbine ruger 10/22, or should most of them be carbine.

Actually...No. Thery were all marked "carbine" until Walmart had one of thier special runs made with a stainles model having a 22" bbl. The recievers were marked "rifle". I'm not 100% but believe some of the current cataloged models are so marked as well depending on the bbl length. Ruger makes the standard 18 1/2" carbine that most are well aware of, the RR model which has a 20" bbl and the Compact which has a 16 1/8" bbl. Which moel you choose depends on what you want. Leave it as is...get the model you want it as. Buying as a basis to build into something different, buy the least expensive one you find.

Carbine just means.... Light weight, short barrelled repeating rifle.

As far as the inner workings of a 10-22 are concerned all of them are exactly the same. The differances come when you start choosing the type of stock, barrel length, stainless or blued, etc.....

So, if I were to get a carbine, I can put a longer barrel on it, right?

If you get a ruger 10/22 you can put any barrel in the world made for the 10/22
