Default 25WSSM?

Whats everyone's thoughts on the 25WSSM?

I am thinking of buying one for a walking around varmint/deer/antelope gun.

I handload so when they go obsolete in a few years I'll still be OK.

I'd really love to hear from the guys that own them.

As far as i can tell the entire WSSM line is DOA, at least in my part of the world. No one has one or has any interest in buying one. A 25-06 gives you the same performance so you might want to consider that as alternative. IMO, If you like a WSSM you better get one now and buy extra brass.

Ridge Runner - Thats the kind of review I like to hear. I know they offer nothing over a standard 25-06, but I like to play with odd-ball stuff that no one else has or has even heard of around here. I am already planning on getting an AR15, if I like the bolt gun. I've always wanted an AR10 in 243, but a 243WSSM may work, and be alot cheaper too I might add. I have a question on your rifle. What size mag(s) can you get? Here if I hunted deer with one, I would need a mag that holds 5 or less, I'm assuming your state is probably the same.

I know D-Tech builds 5 rounders for the WSSM line, and I think Olympic might too.

The 25 wssm is the one out of all of the short mags that seems to offerthe least amount ofdifference/benefit over the original. Ballisticsare virtually, if not totally, identical to the 25-06. And the25-06 doesn'tkick much anyway. TBS,the 25 wssmmust be a heckuva deer round, since the 25-06 is nearly ideal, IMO. There's hardly any factory ammo offerings in 25 wssm, but if you reload anyway and want something different (which I completely understand) then I'd say go for it.

Well, I bit the bullet today. I have a Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker in 25WSSM sitting here. I put a set of Leupold bases/rings on it, and a Zeiss 3-9x40 Conquest scope. The trigger was a lil stiff, so I lightened it up as low as she'd go this evening, and am cleaning out the oil from the factory as we speak. I bought a few boxes of ammo to play with. My parents were wondering what I want for Christmas, so I figured they could get me the reloading equipment for my Xmas present. Tomorrow evening I might try it out on a big whitetail, if the sight-in goes well.
