25 wsm.......not 25wssm
has anyone on here wildcatted the 25 wsm yet? by simply necking down a 270 wsm? seems like this would perform better than the 25wssm and as good or better than a 257 wby mag. if a 25 wssm will meet or slightly exceed a 25-06 why not a 25 wsm?

I tried this about two years ago. The speed was not what I had hoped for and the SD of velocity was pretty wide. Maybe someday they will produce a powder that will make the .25 WSM work better . . .
The 6.5 WSM is a real good WSM wildcat; and it you want a really screaming .25 caliber, the .257 STW is the ultimate. Complete with all the ear splitting noise and short barrel life that goes with such an incredibly over bore caliber.

I was reading in an artical some time back that Winchester tried the 25 WSM and could not get satisfactory results. I believe extrem variation and unexceptable pressures were the problems. I think the 25 WSSM is a pretty fair cartridge as is.

Many times the published factory loads for rifles can't be met by handloader because they use special blends of powder thats not available to the public. Thats how they sell some of that stuff. Often the on paper balistics don't pan out in the field.
