Alright let's look at the trajectory chart Hornady provides for the 20 SST ..........

20 Gauge 250 gr. SST Slug
86232

Velocity (fps) / Energy (ft-lbs)

Muzzle
50 yd
100 yd
150 yd
200 yd

1800/1798
1628/1471
1470/1200
1331/983
1212/815

Trajectory (inches)

Muzzle
50 yd
100 yd
150 yd
200 yd

-1.5
2.5
3.3
0.0
-8.2

If you are sighted in dead on at 50 yards, ignore the -1.5" muzzle number - just forget it.

All that you need to know is that at 100 yards your point of impact (POI) should be .8" higher (call it1" to simplify it).

At 150 yards the POI should be 2.5" low.

And at 200 yards the POI should be 10.7" low.

IMO, according to this trajectory anything at 100 yards to 125 yardsis a point and aim deal and all the blame of a miss or bad shot placement is on you.

But the drop numbers over 150, when figured in with windreally stretch the odds of guaranteed lethal shots not to mention the energy falling off so quickly past 100 yards.

i sighted in my new H&R 20 ga. tracker 2 sunday, and it is zeroed at 50 yards. now i looked at the box of the hornady sst's that i am shooting it, says that it should be 2.5 inches high, will that through me off with these trajectories or will the 100 and 150 and 200 be 2.5 inches less?

Trajectory (inches)

Muzzle
50 yd
100 yd
150 yd
200 yd

-1.5
2.5
3.3
0.0
-8.2
No. IF you have to zero +2.5" at 50 to be dead on at 100, and you zero it dead on at 50 instead, it will be over -5" @ 100, as the range has doubled. Bullets drop much faster in relation to the line of sight after they cross it dropping! So your slug would be close to -15" at 150 yards, and over 2' low at 200 yards. Shoot these distances, you will see what I mean!
