Slug gun question.
Have never shot slugs and was wondering if it was safe or advisable to do through a choked smoothbore. If so what would be max range, how much more range could i get by going to a rifled barrel.
Forgive my ignorance i have never hunted with shotgun and no one else i know does.[&:]

RE: Slug gun question.
I have two slug guns one with a rifled barrel and one with a rifled choke tube longest shot with the choke tube nailed one at 110 yds. I would trust the fully rifled barrel out to 150 but don' t think I would shoot past 125 yds with it. Thats my comfort range, but with some more practice that could change. You can shoot slugs out of a smoothbore, and they shoot fairly well out to 75-100yds.You Didn' t say what choke? an imp.cylinder or mod. I' m guessing. Try different brands as they will shoot different.Use rifled slugs not sabots. Good Luck to you. Ps. If your shooting a pump you may want to pad your shoulder a little at the range.

RE: Slug gun question.
I' ve shot numerous shotgun slugs, barrels, guns and sight options. Smooth bore is fine, use your most open choke. Shoot rifled slugs, I find 2 3/4" slugs for some reason to be more consistent then 3" , and way way better on your shoulder! As maximum distance goes 75 yards. You' ll find out when you go to the range. A rifled barrel will give you 100 yard range ( maybe 125 if you really get dailed in). The biggest thing is practice and shooting a variety to see what your set-up likes. This is really important.....this isn' t like shooting a rifle!
Good Luck!
