Default Win. 94 cleaning?

I just bought a ratty looking old model 94 AE.(in 30-30 cal.)Which I take the AE is for angle eject. How would you clean this rifle ? Just rod it and then shoot a can of gun scrubber through every thing.Would you disasemble?I tore down a rem.nylon 66 ONCE.If the win. is anything like the rem.I will give it away before I take it apart<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>What would you guys suggest?I am mainly a bolt guy.I will probally just keep this one on my 4-wheeler.I'm not going to worry about refinishing or anything.BTW Are there any sights available for these rifles better than stock,But not peeps.I think the peep would defeat the purpose of being fast handling.Thanks........SWAMPDOG

...actually the peep is very fast.. all you do is make sure you're looking thru the peep, put the front sight on the target, and let 'er fly.... I had one on my 375 Big Bore, and it was very fast, but the aperture was too big, and accuracy off the bench wasn't what I expected. As far as taking it apart.. if you don't like mechanical stuff, you better not do it. It's about a 5 or 6 step process to get it apart. It's not difficult, don't get me wrong, but if you don't like messing with mechanical things, then you probably won't enjoy it. I've had mine apart twice, and still have to refer to my instruction sheet to do it. A few more times, and I should have it down pat...
.....so... if you still want to give it away, I'll send you my address .....

If you don't want to mess with it, you could take it to a gunsmith for a good cleaning. Shouldn't cost much and he would find any defects before you started shooting it.

I have a Win 94AE also. The easiest way to clean it is to remove the stock and forearm. Then rod the barrel and (either before or after that) spray the whole thing with Gunscrubber or something similar.Let it dry then wipe it with a verym thin coat or Breakfree, a Tuff Cloth, or something of that nature to prevent rust. Put a couple drops of oil on the action and put it all back together. You're done! That's it! These guns were designed to operate with a minimum of maintenance. It should serve you well. Mine sure has.

By the way, peeps are very fast. They may even be faster and easier than the open sights. Use what you're comfortable with. Peeps do take a little getting used to but that takes all of about 1 box of shells. If you want to stay with open sights I haven't really found any better than the factory sights. The Williams sights are way too small for my eyes. You might give the Marble's a try. I haven't tried them yet so I don't know what they're like.
