My 700LTR Needs A New Trigger
Just bought a new 700LTR in 308. Haven't had time to load for it but it will shoot the Federal's with 168gr Sierra HPBT into 3/8" for 3 shots at 100yds. It will also group 3 of these into 1 1/4" at 300yd., off a bench. My problem is the dang trigger is to tight! It is adjustable but still couldn't get it below 3 1/2#. I like very light triggers on my target/varmint rifles and love the single set trigger on my CZ-550 deer gun. I have a 222 and a 22-250 both with Timney Featherweight triggers and I love them. I was looking in my Brownell's catalog and seen a Rifle Basix trigger for the 700 that is adjustable from 4oz.-1 1/2#. It costs a little more than the Timney but that is not really an issue. This will be a target rifle and might be used for a coyote on rare occasions so I'm not too concerned with going to light. Has anybody had any experience with Rifle Basix triggers? And how do they compare to the Timney?

Do you like single set triggers? I got canjar trigger triggers on several of my personal rifles and they are absolutely best trigger I've ever used. They are FULLY adjustable and safe. I have mine adjusted for unset pull weight @ 1pound with set pull weight @ 3 oz. I don't know about website but they are in denver.

RE: My 700LTR Needs A New Trigger
My dad used to have a Ruger No. 1 Varmint in 25-06. We put a canjar on it. It was okay but I just didn't like the feel of it. The single set on the you can shoot regular, or push it forward until it clicks for the set trigger. The Canjar seemed more delicate and it was very finicky when we first put it in and tried to adjust it.

Save your Money. IMHO, the remington is one of the BEST factory triggers on the market today. It is easily adjustable. There are 2 screws. One for trigger weight, and the other to adjust the crep to make it crisp. I had a Rem 700 PSS in .308 and had a gunsmith take the trigger down to about 2.5 lbs. It broke clean and crisp, like glass. NO CREEP.
the other triggers are good choices, but I really don't think that you need to do that.
Good luck to you.

I have already adjusted the trigger myself and 2 1/2 pounds is still tighter than what I want on a target rifle. It would be about the ideal weight for a regular deer rifle. I guess maybe the Timney's on two of my other rifles just have me spoiled. It just has to go. I can't live with it. As far as factory triggers go, the older Win. 70 had an extremely good yet amazingly simple trigger. Why can't gun manufacturers keep things simple like they used to?

I installed a Rifle Basix in my 700 CDL a couple of years ago. The one I used was able to be set at 3 lbs., which is where I like my hunting gun triggers. Yes, the factory trigger can be adjusted, but I wanted to try this one, and I really do like it.
