You can make up any excuse you want for a new rifle! Nobody here is going to be critical! Flinch is a mental reaction related to fear. I have been fighting it for a couple of years and I think I can say that I have it under control now. I use a 6.5x55 Swede, and a .308. I could use a heavier gun if I had to I think. What worked for me is using ear muffs and shoulder pad for practice shots. Also important is ensuring that the scope has enough eye relief to minimize any chanceof a cut eye brow. If you get enough comfortable shots you will be able to handle the .270 without trouble. If not...get a 6.5x55 or .260, or a 7mm-08. Good Luck!
