Lets Keep it simple: Less Recoil 308
Longer distance,more knock down 3006

I prefer the .308.
Ditto, but when you have these cartiridges that are the same caliber but different caseing (i belve correct me if i'm wrong) i say flip a coin or choose which you like best!!(which fits you the best, weather or not you like long action or shorter action.......etc) good luck!!!

Unless you handload the .30-06 up to its potential then there is no difference in the field between a .308 win and a .30-06. 06 factory ammo rarely reaches its advertised velocities. I have owned both and taken game up to the size of moose with both and see absolutely no difference. The .308 will have a little less recoil and shoot maybe 60-70 fps less than an 06. The T3 only comes in one action length so you will be shooting a short case in a long action, not the end of the world. The T3 is a great rifle and great value. As for which chambering, flip a coin. No deer will ever know the difference.

I have to agree that any comparisons between the two are virtually identical. Both are fine deer rifles and I debated for a long time before I finally got the 30-06. I just like it's ability to hold a bigger powder charge.

I've hunted/ shot both, heard good/bad stories about both and with all that in mind my last rifle for hunting I bought was a 7mm mag. A lot more range and knock down power.Add a muzzle brake and it kicks like my sons 243, my wife even shoots. I hunt open areas where long range shots are pretty comon and didnt have the confidencein the 308 or the 3006

I agree with the 7mag part. My brothers gf (5'5" 110lbs) was out shooting my 243 a week ago, and the other day I handed her my 7mag and told her it wouldn't kick anymore than than the 243. She started banging away with my 7mm with no problems what-so-ever. In fact she prefers that gun over the 2 different 243s of mine she shot.

I also have a 7mm mag for longer range shooting. But I beg to differ that it's more potent within 50 yds than a 30-06, though it is very close, it's not any stronger up close.. A little harder hitting IMO,than a 270 maybe.

I really don't think anything will be able to tell the difference what it is hit with at 50 yards or less! LOL Nail 'em in the vitals with a 7mm or '06 and they are going to hit the ground fast.

In my opinion the only 30 cal round that can even compare to a 7mm mag at any range is a 300 win mag .

Exactly! my '06, inside of 50yds, will knock em downas quick than my 7mm. Can't say that about 300yds though. The 7mm has a little harder of a hit out long.

I beg to differ dude. any 30 cal bullet inside 50ydsis just as effective as a7mm mag. Ive shot deer with both and seen more of them fall without running with my 06 than my 7mm, though they only go 10yds or so with the 7mm. theyre both great deer rifles. A bullet moving around 2900 fps will do more close range than a bullet moving 3175. The 7mm really shines out at 150yds+
