I also have a 7mm mag for longer range shooting. But I beg to differ that it's more potent within 50 yds than a 30-06, though it is very close, it's not any stronger up close.. A little harder hitting IMO,than a 270 maybe.
I really don't think anything will be able to tell the difference what it is hit with at 50 yards or less! LOL Nail 'em in the vitals with a 7mm or '06 and they are going to hit the ground fast.
