300 wsm vs. 300 saum
Which would you guys pick. Is one really better than the other. A friend of mine has been thinkin about gettin one but can't decide which. I know you hear a lot more about the 300 wsm. One thing that i have noticed is that here in AK, or at least in Eagle River, 300 saum ammo is a lot easier to find. What do you guys think.

RE: 300 wsm vs. 300 saum
I've heard several times that the wsm is longer so you can higher velocity's. Well the saum "IS" shorter "BUT" it is fatter. Powder capacity is about the same. Where's the higher velocity coming from?
Personally I like the win brass better for loading but if I was going to shoot factory I'd take the saum because I have a personal preference for rem rifles.

RE: 300 wsm vs. 300 saum
Greg
Both the wsm and the saum are based on the 404
I couldn't find any factory ammo in 300 saum when I bought my rifle. So I bought some 300 wsm brass and sized down the shoulder and trimmed them.
I then had to fire form them to fit the chamber of the saum because the saum has less taper.
I would think the wsm should feed alittle better because of the taper.

RE: 300 wsm vs. 300 saum
The case capacity of the WSM and SAUM are not the same. The WSM holds about 9 grains more water than the SAUM and will give slightly higher velocities at the same pressures. The SAUM might be fatter, but the difference is so small as to make it meaningless. So far the WSM has proven to be a much bigger seller and ammo is much easier to find. I'd bet on the WSM staying around and the SAUM disappearing. If you're a handloader then ammo availability isn't a concern so buy what you want.
