stay far away from any burris! i got rid of my beer can looking red dot scope on my 629 classic because buying batteries sucks and no matter how hard you try one day you will forget to turn it off. the one i had used expensive big watch-camera type batteries. also the glow from that thing when set high will make you look like a space alien to the deer and bear.go with the fixed power extended relief m-8 leupold. i wouldnt care what finish it is. get the best price you can because if your using it for hunting youll want to put a camo bear tooth scope cover over the scope anyway.be sure to check the want adds on this site. i got mine mint condition for 100$

"stay far away from any Burris". Why? I've got a Burris 4X on my 45/70 Contender and its stood up to it for three years now. Maybe I just got a good one, but its held up well to 150-200 rounds of that recoil. That says something about them to me. just my .02

I agree with T/C Fan. I have a 4x Burris on a 12 guage slug gun and it has taken a lot of abuse and just keeps on ticking. In fact, I hadn't used the gun in three years and when a situation reguired that I had to use it at the last minute, it was right on the money right out of the gun safe with no tinkering required. But I guess you can get a lemon in anything.

By the way T/C Fan, you are da man! Shooting a 45/70 contender! I inherited a Ruger #1 in 45/70 and it brings tears to my eyes shooting it with my shoulder and a pachmyer recoil pad.

lol graveyard. My 45/70 barrel has the T/C "muzzle-tamer" brake on it and as long as you're not shooting heavy hard-hitting loads, its really not that bad. Hand me a hard-kicking pistol and I"ll shoot it. Hand me a hard-kicking rifle and I'll hand it back to ya!!
