my friend uses one in a .223 and it kills deer easily. for $220 though i would go out and buy a bolt action in .270

the NEF single shot is a good rifle, mossberg has an inexpensive one out also, dont know how good it is though. In the middle are the ruger #1s &#3s .At the other end of the spectr are the browming high&low walls and the Dakota model10s.If it was me an cost was a factor I'd get the NEF. Otherwise get the best you can afford.

have 2 Encores, and a pile of barrels... just love the handiness of the light, short rifles... even with a 26" barrel you're still right at the 40" overall length... being limited to one shot, makes me more conscious of what I'm doing and forces me to make every shot count... plus it gives me more time on the range practicing...
