I have a #1 in 30-06 and have had them in .300 win mag along with .220 swift all are great shooters. The 30-06 will shoot clover leafs if I do my part. One thing is sometimes you have to adjust the screw in forarm to get proper tensen for beter grougs.

I have hunted with a #1--7STW for the past two years. I started with a straight barrel. Wow!! did that thing kick! I could hit the target at 100, but there was no way I could get a group of any kind. I had Answer Products put on their "Answer System". It consists of a muzzle brake and a special recoil pad. Now, with proper loads and if I can do my part, the gun will put three shots in the same hole at 100. I have developed a load that will shoot 2" high at 100 and dead-on at 300. I would trust this rifle and load out to 500+. Ruger makes an excellent product. But this one needs a little alteration

not having owned either the encore or the number 1, my preference is for the #1 not only for looks, but the action as well. the simple flick of the lever vs the pull on the trigger guard that moves the entire barrel, though whatever fits you best is the ideal solution.

I think I am also leaning toward the Ruger #1. I like the 7mm STW but if the recoil is too much I may opt for 30-06.

Not long ago I was at the range and a friend had a Ruger#1 S/S in 45/70.I took a couple shots with it.I was quite impressed with it. Out of the box the trigger was acceptable.I took two shots @100 yds. The two shots were touching each other. They were a little low but that was probably the way I was looking through the scope. This guy who owned the rifle is big into handloading. It took him a couple weekends to get a accurate load.Once he did it will drive tacks. This was the first #1 I ever shot.I now own this rifle. He used it to try his loads out. Once he found what he was looking for he was done with it. Wanted to sell it, I bought it a done deal. The mention of recoil. I was surprised how mild this 45/70 was. Ruger Redhawk
