BSA and Tasco scopes
Has anyone had any good experiences with either the tasco or bsa scopes? One of my buddies will only shoot tasco scopes. But I think he shoots the expencive ones. The tasco pronghorn is about all I can afford after buying my new gun. Bsa has a similar scope.

RE: BSA and Tasco scopes
I have a Tasco 3x9 on a ruger 77/50 that has been on there since the year the 77/50 came out and as of last season it still is dead on.Have a Simmons 3x9 on a Rem 742 in 30/06 for I don' t know how many years,it was still on last years season also.Had a nikon on my encore 50 cal last year and the cross hairs broke,so you can get good ones and bad ones in all of them, just depends on how much money you want to spend.
Haven' t owned the Bsa in reg scope but have friends that do and they seem to like them.Use the Bsa red dot on my rem. 870 and love it.
If I was going to spend $200 or more I would go with the top brand names though, more likely to get a good one.(I guess)

I have seen tasco, bsa and simmons fail several times. These involved crosshairs falling apart, point of impact shifts as the power settings were changed and blurriness that increased until the scope was useless.I will not use any of the three on any of my guns.

RE: BSA and Tasco scopes
I use the Tasco World class scopes and have had no problems with them. I haven' t had the oportunity to compare it to a Nikon or Leupold so what the difference is I couldn' t tell you. I' ve asked and the knowledgeable people here say it' s almost night and day ( my terms not theirs) You should be able to get a world Class for under $ 100.00 (more like $ 79.00 in my area) good luck

You really do get what you pay for!
I' d rather have the cheapest Leupold, compared to the most expensive Tasco.
I' ve actually witnessed guys " baking" their Tascos in the oven in an attempt to get rid of the moisture/condensation inside after a opening-day rain storm in PA. I feel integrity and reliabilty is pretty good in the $200 to $300 range, and then after that you pay quite a bit for the quality of the glass.
I' d even buy a fixed power in a better scope, if that was all I could afford.

Kodiak,
Hunting season is a ways off.
You' ve described your hunting as pretty short range.
Use the iron sights until you can bank enough for a worthy scope and mounts.
Choice of scope is equally important as the choice of rifle.
You' ve seen the scope polls..... heart break at the moment of truth.
Don' t put a $5 saddle on a $1,000 horse! False economy.
There is no short cut. $5000 hunting trip hinging on a $60 glass? Give me iron sights. At least the iron sights won' t let you down.
