Awesome! Didyour buck just drop right there on the spot? Or was he able to run a little ways? You said you focused on the arrow in the dirt. Just curious with the heart shot like that! Man that is SUPER COOL !!!!

chris
He took a sharp left ran ten yards and thencame to a main trail and took another left and ran about forty yards more. I would say the first ten he ran real hard, then when he was on a main trail he trotted a little. He then came to a small bedding area that I could still see from stand and he stopped for a few seconds and then took off on a diagonal death run for another ten yards crashing real hard. If you turn the volume up all the way you can kinda hear what I am describing, you can at least hear the crash. I could not follow him with camera because the tree I am in has a ton of sucker shoots that come up from base. I had a hard time with shot as it was and there was no way I could maneuver CB around tree to get him on tape. Plus I was excited and wanted to see where he went.

I plan on trying to mount him myself John, worst I can do is screw it up and have a skull mount! LOL!!

Thanks for all the compliments guys! I certainly did not do all this work for my wife!! LOL!!!

When faced with death deer can do great things. The one and only deer I took with a gun was a broken eight point shot with a .50 cal in-line. He was twenty five yards out and I hit the sweet spot right up the inside leg. But he ran off out of sight and into a woods about 80 yards away, I was shocked. Got down out of tree and zero blood! None at all! I went to where he ran in the woods and he was about ten yards in the woods down and out, but zero blood any where! When I field dress him I blew up his heart! I only found one small piece of the bottom tip of the heart about the size of a walnut! He had no heart, no blood pressure, and no fresh blood in his meat! But he ran 80 to 100 yards on fear! And it was fear and not adrenalin because he had to heart to pump it around! I was amazed when I seen the small piece of heart left!

Its simple, Excal range finder mount will go on any 1" scope, it cost 25 bucks or so I think. Then just put you any small camera on it and you are in business! I made a plate for my camera since I could not let my self put on a piece of Velcro on a new 400 dollar camera. But it is easy to do and you are in business!!

I was actually talking about a big buck! But a camera mount would be nice too!
I'm using a red dot right now(on my Horton)so it won't work. But I'm thinking about getting an Excal with a lumizone or varizone next year anyway.

You would only need a set of larger rings, any that mount to a weaver style rail will work. But if I remember right that red dot is pretty short and you may not have room for another ring. If it has the integral mount then you may not be able to put another ring on it at all.

yea, it has the integral mount. You are right, that is the problem. I could probably rig something up but I will just wait. I like the horton, but I may get an excal to make maintenance much easier. I like the compact design and accurancy of the Team Realtree Horton, but it is a little heavy.

I spent over a year curling my lip at all the Excal guys in here. They always seemed so happy and enjoyed rubbing it in. I had to take a friend to a shop about an hour away last spring and they had the Exocet on display. I picked it up and was amazed at how much lighter it was then my Horton. I was on a mission ever since then. You and I know Horton's are just fine, but I hated how heavy my Supermax 175 was. Yes the Excal is wider, but only a couple inches when cocked. I like the weight and the ability to tinker more.
