Eight Point Buck Video!
#11
I looked through the Video on the impact shot and these are the best I can get. I have found in the back yard it takes about twenty to twenty five yards for the camera to stabilize enough to get the arrow in the air, the recoil is wicked on the camera. Some times when the limbs are not even in the pic the camera flexes so much that the limbs so up in the middle of the screen for a few frames! This buck was only about ten to fifteen feet! You will see him in the first pic nice and clear looking left. The next pic is the first pic I have that is some what clear but you can see the hair still lifted up from the arrow going in. He is still looking left unchanged, he has no idea at this point. The third pic is his hair staring to lay back down after the arrow is in and he has felt it, his head is starting to turn, and his tail go up. The fourth pic is a few frames later, but wanted to share since I thought it was cool. He hunches up so much his butt is above his head! Enjoy!

I aimed high, but not because of the arrow hitting low from a tree or anything, but because I knew how close he was and needed to aim up to get both lungs. I heard something a few years ago, and you guys have heard it to I bet. It is a concept called aim for the exit heart shot, or just aim for the exit. I knew in order to hit the "middle" I would have to aim high, exit low and make it through the "middle" heart area.

Being that close I figured you must of been right on the top of the back.....Years ago(lots)I learned to shoot high on close shots, shot under acouple doe's when they were right about under me now I hold off for the 15 and out shots if at all possible but if Iam stalking or still hunting its awhole differant story.I do prefere to ground hunt now over being in my stands..

That really is pretty cool. You did put a hurting on him and don't think you could have hit him any better. Anytime they are as dead as a stump in less than a minute you have done pretty good.
Are you going to mount him? I was going to mount my last one but it was far to cold out and I just wanted to gethim out of the woods.
I am heading out with my not so healthy buddy right now. Gonna try once more to set him up. I am just taking a still camera cause no one wants a doe unless I cut it. RIGHT!! I just hope I don't see any yotes and you know I will without a weapon in hand. That or the BIG buck I should have waited for.
PS.... Maybe if you had used something other than an excal we would have been able to see the arrow hit a bit more clearly..wink wink...

Awesome! Didyour buck just drop right there on the spot? Or was he able to run a little ways? You said you focused on the arrow in the dirt. Just curious with the heart shot like that! Man that is SUPER COOL !!!!
