Got in my stand at 2:00PM today, again I thought it would be active this evening since it rained all last night, but again I saw no deer. I didn't even see my lucky groundhog. This makes two days in a row with no sightings![:@]I may get out again on Friday if it rains Thurs night into Fri morning like they say.

Climbed out of bed to a howling 20 mph wind from the west.I figured what the hell I can't shoot one from bedso off I went. Most of my stands like a northeast wind but I had an untried ground blind that would work with a west wind. The stand is just a sheet of that 15 ft by 4 ft camo burlap stapled to some trees with a little brush thown around it. These set- ups are great and cost about $10.00
Settled in by 5:15 and the wind took a short AM break. Was able to range few spots at first light but really sort of forgot what the stand site looked like as they all blend together after awhile and I have to use GPS to walk in.
I like and swear by the use of scents and used one of those new "Buck Bombs " like ahand grenade at 6:45. Well if I did not crap myself when at 7:00 I look to myleft and at 20yds or was it 15....I see a monster wide racked buck. Was not able to get a point count but he had to be a GOOD ten. Slipped the bow off the hook, eased into position and slowly took the safety off. At that point I forgotabout everything I have ever learnedabout shooting and basically just launched an arrow in his direction. I don't remember finding the spot or holding thru the shot when Ifired on limb slapped a small branch and I heard the arrow whack the buck. Sat around a half hourand walked out to pick up my arrow. Poor clear blood on the arrow but good red blood right on the ground where he had been.I went back to the truck went for coffee, called the buds and we went back.Waited three hours totrack on a good blood trail and blew him out of bed. Not much blood in the bed so I went back home took a nap and went back at 3:00. I again chased him out of bed with his tail up not tucked. Geez he had a rack. Just a little clear blood in that bed and he took off like he was not even hit.
I not only don't think I am gonna find him, I think he is gonna live. He would have been my best buck and I have a few good ones under my belt. How come I feel like I was kicked in the balls...Thwack<<<<

Ah Buck fever has won again! I haven't hunted in 3 days, 2 because i was off on a run. The 3rd which is this morning because of 40 mph winds coming out of the e and se. All my stands need a westerly wind!

I got in the stand about 2:30 pm saturday and did not see nothing but tree rats and chipmunks. Until just before dark....I hit my doe bleat just to give it a shot, I figured it aint going to hurt nothing, 2 minutes later if that a lone doe sneaks up behind me. Well she never offered a good clear shot. So I decided it was time to head back to the truck. I threw my climber on my back and made my way out of the woods. When I came to the field I saw the doe about 100 yards out. I decided to see how close I could get, If I would get within 30 yards I'de take a shot. I only made it about 50 yards before she took off. So I came home with an empty truck once again.

My cat squirrel came down tree to visit this morning and left, saw a few birds. Then 2 Doe's slipped in from over at the oak where they had been eating acorns. First Doe didn't stop so i let her go, second did same as first. Don't want to wound one ya knowed! Well i watched them go up into the bean field. I decided to shoot my practice arrow out of stand, picked out a leaf and let it fly! Its 32 yds. to leaf and i put my 30 yds. triangle on it. I couldn't see that arrow sticking anywhere close to that leaf. I got down walked down to leaf and it took a min. to locate it. It was in the ground dead inline with leaf but 7 yds. beyond the leaf. Must have hit at least 10" high, i learned i can use my 20 yard xhair because of steep downward angle! I am ready fer them now, i would have peed on myself if a good Buck had come by. Cause i would have shot over him and sat there and cried about it![]

Got to go out Saturday AM for a few hours, saw several does, no bucks this time.

After I got down and headed back to the barn made a quick stop by the range. After missing that buck last week wanted to check how well the Red Dot was still sighted, maybe I did something to knock it off.

At 20 and again at 30 yards put 3 shots through the kill zone, so went back to my stand and noticed that one of the lower limbs was close to the arched trajectory, looked a little closer and found a spot that may have been where my bolt knicked it, what a bummer!!

But I have restored my confidence in my sighting and everything else, just have to take a pole trimmer with me next time I am out there, its about 12 feet in the air.

Went bear hunting this am kinda late. They hadn't hit yesterdays bait yet and the breeze was in my face off the mntn. Thought Hot Dam, todays the day! Sat there for 6 hrs and nada. Did watch a red-tail fetch up a grey squirrel about 30 yds out, kinda neat. I keep losing to these bears, lol, but only gotta win once and I got til 11/30 to play w/ them.
