Climbed out of bed to a howling 20 mph wind from the west.I figured what the hell I can't shoot one from bedso off I went. Most of my stands like a northeast wind but I had an untried ground blind that would work with a west wind. The stand is just a sheet of that 15 ft by 4 ft camo burlap stapled to some trees with a little brush thown around it. These set- ups are great and cost about $10.00
Settled in by 5:15 and the wind took a short AM break. Was able to range few spots at first light but really sort of forgot what the stand site looked like as they all blend together after awhile and I have to use GPS to walk in.
I like and swear by the use of scents and used one of those new "Buck Bombs " like ahand grenade at 6:45. Well if I did not crap myself when at 7:00 I look to myleft and at 20yds or was it 15....I see a monster wide racked buck. Was not able to get a point count but he had to be a GOOD ten. Slipped the bow off the hook, eased into position and slowly took the safety off. At that point I forgotabout everything I have ever learnedabout shooting and basically just launched an arrow in his direction. I don't remember finding the spot or holding thru the shot when Ifired on limb slapped a small branch and I heard the arrow whack the buck. Sat around a half hourand walked out to pick up my arrow. Poor clear blood on the arrow but good red blood right on the ground where he had been.I went back to the truck went for coffee, called the buds and we went back.Waited three hours totrack on a good blood trail and blew him out of bed. Not much blood in the bed so I went back home took a nap and went back at 3:00. I again chased him out of bed with his tail up not tucked. Geez he had a rack. Just a little clear blood in that bed and he took off like he was not even hit.
I not only don't think I am gonna find him, I think he is gonna live. He would have been my best buck and I have a few good ones under my belt. How come I feel like I was kicked in the balls...Thwack<<<<
