I also hunt in oklahoma and the late season is a little tougher but the weather here in ok is great for late season, no sweating to death like early season but not to many super cold days either. I usually give the deer a week after the slaughter season (gun) and head back out. I have taken 4 deer in the past 3 years in late season. I have also seen 1-2 great bucks each year late. Just haven't conected on one yet, all does and one cull buck. Can't get one at home!!!

Late season hunting can be really good just depends on the area you are hunting and how much pressure the deer had during the early bow and firearm seasons. I really look forward to late season hunting, shot some of my biggest bucks dec thru jan... After the rut the big boys got to feed to replenish the body fat they lost chasing the girls around, and finding a good food source is the ticket to putting meat in the freezer. so in IMO its a darn good time to hunt!

Late season is a great time to hunt. I'm a bit north of you but it should be pretty much the same only warmer where you are. The toughest thing about late season in Maine is staying warm enough that you can still draw your bow when the deer arrive.
I tip for hunting the second esterous. Use you fawn bleat to call bucks. The "second rut" is primarily made up of does that wern't breed durring the rut and yearlings that are just comming into esterous for the first time. The fawn bleat can be a lethal weapon for those bucks that are crusing looking for the last few deer to breed for the year. Give it a try and good luck.

I'm from Wisconsin. I love the late season here. The more snow the better! Occasionally we'll even make small silent drives. It's easy to tell where the deer will be coming through in areas with deep snow and well used trails on those drives. Nothing like a fresh blood trail in the white snow either! Deer are ususally more skiddish after the 9 day gun season. In the county I am in estimates say as much as 70% of the bucks are shot during the nine day gun season, so you certainly don't see as many bucks this time of year. Find a good feeding source and wait for a day with hi's in the teens and you'll have action here!
Oh yeah, If I do see a buck during the late season that is a marginal shooter, there is no doubt I let him walk. He made it through gun season so chances are great that he'll just be a bigger guy next season!

We`re in the end of the second week of rifle season in Minnesota, been real slow this week, saw three does running full bore this morn and thats it this week.
I`m looking forward to hunting when things quiet down again and hopefully get a little snow to help see where they are moving regularly.
I got my first deer early season and enjoy the warm weather and not having to wear blaze orange too.
Good luck all.
