RE: late season good or bad
I'm from Wisconsin. I love the late season here. The more snow the better! Occasionally we'll even make small silent drives. It's easy to tell where the deer will be coming through in areas with deep snow and well used trails on those drives. Nothing like a fresh blood trail in the white snow either! Deer are ususally more skiddish after the 9 day gun season. In the county I am in estimates say as much as 70% of the bucks are shot during the nine day gun season, so you certainly don't see as many bucks this time of year. Find a good feeding source and wait for a day with hi's in the teens and you'll have action here!
Oh yeah, If I do see a buck during the late season that is a marginal shooter, there is no doubt I let him walk. He made it through gun season so chances are great that he'll just be a bigger guy next season!
