For me it depends on the situation. I`ll go up 15' if that is where I need to be because of cover. I prefer to get up much higher if it is possible. I prefer 25-30' when possible. Even at 30', if a deer is 10 yards away from your tree, that is only a 45 degree angle. Not that bad, you still have a big target area to catch both lungs.
