I've heard how much more exciting it is to shoot a deer from the ground than a tree. Well I was out scouting last night and this field that I hunt has a BIG blow down in it from the hurricane last fall. Seems like the deer are using that as cover from the road when they go from the woods in to the corn. Tracks were 20-30 yds from the tree and it's the perfect spot for a ground blind.
The tree has a big fork in it so I'm gonna sit in between there, set up some good camo and a chair and shoot down the field. I can't wait, I think it'll be awesome!!!!
Again, no point to this post, just wanted to share my good news with somebody. Thanks for listening.

Sounds like a great place if the wind direction is good . I hunt from a tile wash out ( a hole caused when a field tile breaks and carrys all the dirt away) it is one of my best stands ,I am below grade.

Don't be so hard on yourself Johnch, I'm sure you hunt just fine.
The cool thing about this is that I can slip in from the back side of the tree so the walk is short, with the wind direction right I'll be approaching from down wind. The whole set up just makes sense. Doesn't happen to me too often.

Solax,
I think it's all a matter of perspective. I have shot deer off of the ground and I certainly won't rule that out as an option but I greatly prefer to be in a tree. The main reasons being that I can see much better from a tree in most situations. I can get by with more movement and stand a better chance of drawing undetected in a tree and hopefully my scent will be blowing over the majority of the deer that come in down wind of me. So for me the greater thrill is killing one from a tree but I'll take em either way. Good luck and congrats on the spot.

silentass, there are a few trees right there that I could use but one of the benefits I'm thinking of is that when the deer move from the woods to the corn or vice versa I'll have a perfectly broadside shot, right down the edge of the corn. If I were in a tree I think the chances of that would be less.
