I also have had a few p&y elk within range, the biggest being 350 or maybe a little bigger, but one of his cows busted my movement trying to draw the bow, man he was a monster. Actually could have shot an elk that I am quite sure would have scored 400 or bigger, but I passed on him. Oh by the way it wasn't hunting season and he was quite visible from the I-90. Only 246 yards according to my father's laser rangefinder. Man he was amazing to see, and he was an 8x8.

Every time out I expect to see a 150 160 class. On average I will see one 35% of the time and with in shotgun range. The problem though I don't hunt with a gun. I have tried to grunt them closer without much success. Over the years I have had three huge deer in front of me But have yet to get a shot off. I guess next year will be the year.
I see 130 class about 80% of the time always in bow range. I won't shoot the 130 class until the end of December. Even then I will usually pop the bambi first.

The biggest buck I had in bow range this year was a massive 6 point. Not sure what he would have measured but his brow tines must have been 6 - 8 inches long. Don't understand why he was only a six, but I let him pass thinking and hoping that next year he'll be a massive 8. I've never seen a six point with such a big rack. I don't think he was an old animal, but could have been. He was around a bunch and somewhere I've got some pictures of him. If I could find one, I'll post it here.
Haven't had a lot of book bucks in bow range over the years. I did have a Monster within twenty yards several years ago but alas, the fever took me and I had the shakes worse than an exotic dancer.[
] I've harvested plenty of Does....don't that count for anything.

I hunt residential areas. I travel a lot of states always looking in neighborhoods. One of my favorite spots I have looked but not hunted was in Columbus Oh. I've seen 160 class quite often in some suburbs. I don't hunt Ohio though.
One of my freinds has a wall like ARCHERYWIZ, he is now more into duck hunting.
I did have some pics from another friend who took them in his back yard and in neighbors front yards. All of them look like ARCHERYWIZ's. I wounder if ARCHERYWIZ
is a residential hunter? One day I will bring my video camera. I haven't because Its tough to move when you have dozens of eye balls on you. I also want to finally shoot a 160 class and I don't want a camera to screw it up.

Interesting post. It is neat to see how many bowhunting shot ops other hunters from around the country experience. I generally will have a good handful of P&Y class bucks in range every season. I couldn't even imagine what the number would be since I first started bowhunting over 15 years ago??? I do know that the largest buck I've ever had within range was on Nov. 15 '98, @ 7:15 AM. That awesome non-typ with a droptine of 13" would have scored in excess of 230" B&C!!!!! I may never see a buck like that in bow range again BUT you never know??? Either way, to seriously know that your next crack at a "trophy" buck could happen at any second indeed adds a level of excitment that I would like to see many of you experience. I hope all ya guys on this post collect your P&Y buck this year. Good luck and good shootin'

Ive bowhunted for about 15 years now and usually have one or two in bow range every year, and prbably 5 or 6 sightings that are out of bow range, but in range isnt always good enough, with a total of about a dozen p/y bucks within bow range, only one has offered me a good shot and hes on the wall, Ive got several between 100 - 120 but only one p/y. Gun is a different story, if I can see them where I hunt they are in range with a gun, but tats a different story.

That is one fine animal in my book, Tribal. In recent years I have had 2 in range. A 11 ptr., possible 150 & a 12 ptr. possible 160. 11 was in pre-season scouting. Big fella came to 11 yards of my ladder stand and presented himself broadside. 12 was this yr., came down off a ridgetop in hot pursuit of a doe. I had an instant when he was clear but sad to say I was not prepared for that 1 instant. Still kicking myself over that but I sure learned to be prepared. I too am not into the scoring thing. I know all about it and how they are scored but I simply have my own image of a trophy. Those who are really into the scoring thing are ok in my book but it's just my opinion that it is not too important in the big picture. I just love to hunt and take one, pass on one, miss one, or not see one. It is all pure enjoyment for myself whatever the outcome of any particular hunt. If I ever lose that pure enjoyment I will then know it is time to move on to some other pleasure. I do hope that day never comes but if it ever does I will reflect upon those thrilling days of yesteryear and thank my Creator for having blessed me.

I was born & raised in Ill. bowhunting since 1956-last 7 years live right across the border in Iowa now-bowhunted most years since 1958 in Wis. have "SEEN" more P&Y bucks in these 3 states than I could remember & also more than I care to remember that I have missed in bow range (thats bowhunting). I "AM NOT" a trophy hunter but do hold out now & then for a nice rack. I have 2 P&Y Bears, 1 P&Y Caribou, 4 Whitetails but never hunted for P&Y specifically EXCEPT The Black Bears. I "MISSED" about a 160 class this year-shot him for 30 yards & he was 32-watched the arrow pass just a little under his chest. I did pass on a 10 that would make minimum twice at under 15 yards. good luck in your 2004 season.
