RE: # of P&Y in bow range?
Had one in range that made me demolish my pants. Wind was variable and he stopped about 25 yards away broadside, BUT a sassafrass tree's branches were in a direct line with him. He stood there for about 4 minutes getting progressively more and more nervous until the wind picked up and gave me away. He turned heel and ran like he'd seen a ghost!
If that thing had one point it had 14, although I was so nervous I didn't remember to count them all. Saw him the next day chasing a doe well out of bow range and never again.
What I'd give to have another crack at him.

As would be expected, guys in the midwest have had multiple encounters with P&Y bucks. To kill a P&Y in Mississippi would be equivalent to killing a B&C in Kansas, IL, IO, WI, OK, etc.

I hunt Northeast Oklahoma not far from Dalejbrass. I too have had over 20 different P&Y bucks in bow range. I've also had at least 3 B&C bucks under 30 yards. I've taken a few P&Y but haven't scored on that B&C yet. I've been bow hunting for 13 years now.

I've been bowhunting for 4 yrs and have had 3, maybe 4, P&Y whitetails within bow range. Who knows, there could be many more that have been in bow range but I didn't see them because I was "resting my eyes" . All P&Y that I've had in range have been in the past 2 yrs. And none have offered a decent shot. I guess that's why we keep going into the woods day after day.

I've had three in bow range in the last two years, two in '02 that both came in straight on and presented no shot. The big one, 340-class, came in to 25 feet. The other, a 310ish animal, came to 18 yards. This past year, I finally got the angle on a low 260s animal (still have to get it officially scored), and killed him at 26 yards.
P.S. I'm talkin' elk, did I mention that before?
