RE: bear hunting
Not knowing the particulars of your bow and with my very limited experience with fast bows, it sounds to me like you need a bow that will consistently group your broadheads and not sacrifice a quality broadhead like thunderhead for a mechanical broadhead that may malfunction at the worst of times. My personal opinion is keep it as simple as you can handle. I would shoot traditional if I thought I could consistently make good clean kills with it. Until then I will shoot the simplist set up I feel comfortable with. Just my .02 worth.

RE: bear hunting
Kansas; Your outfitter will/should retrieve any wounded bear for you. Your safety is also their responsibility . As mentioned before, shot placement is critical. The long hair can be deceiving, so aim 1/3 of the way up the chest. Also, be sure you use a blade that will enhance your chance of good penetration. As far as pepper spray goes, you can purchase it in Canada if your are over 18. As long as the wind is not in your face, I guess it'd work. The bush we hunt in is extemely thick out here on the coast, so mostly we go in on retreival with 12g and buckshot. I would ask your outfitter before you worry about bringing a gun along. If you don't need one, then avoid the hassle at the border.
