Default Meat Still Good?

I was out hunting last night and about 10 minutes before closing a doe comes busting through the woods. I grunted with my throat to stop her, but to no effect then I grunted again and she stopped. I waited for her to take a step forward an turn, then I drilled her. I was hunting about 16 feet up and the shot was at a pretty steep angle so I was not sure if I got both lungs and thought the shot might have been back a few inches.

I opted to wait til this morning to go track and found her about 70 yards away. I know I probably should have gone back out last night to look, but for one I was not 100% on the shot and second it is a new area and I do not think I could have found may way back to the spot in the dark.

NOW FOR MY DILEMA,

I taged her but the shot put a big enough hole on the bottom side for some of the insides to seep out abit. The temp was about 50 degrees when I shot her and it got down to the low 30' s last night. She was cold to the touch and stiff when I found her. I think the meat is still good, what do ya all think.

Thanks for your help.

I once shot a buck when the temps were about 70 and didn' t recover the deer for about 24 hours. I took the deer to a professional butcher for a diagnosis who proclaimed it to be good. We washed every piece (like I always do) and it tuned out to be the best tasting deer we' ve ever had . . . and we didn' t die either!

It' s fine--the guts make it smell bad, but it isn' t spoiled.
