Aluminum or Carbon arrows?
#21
I shot aluminums for years then switched to carbons just to see for myself. I may shoot aluminums again but right now carbons offer a large advantage for me. Money-wise......I can shoot carbons longer because they don' t bend or break so easily, so I am actually saving money
. As far as weight, many manufacturers now make carbons available heavier.
Whatever works for each individual is fine, just put the shot in the boiler, thats the main thing.

I shot aluminums for the last 20+ years--except for the year bemans came out. They blew right through every deer I hit like nobody' s business. However, I went right back to aluminums primarily due to the cost. When I bought my new bow, I was being told of numerous advantages of carbons--like quicker recovery of the shaft, faster, doesn' t bend and stay that way--and I bought a dozen. They were about the same price as aluminums and have held up pretty well to some hits that would have bent aluminums.
I just picked up another 1/2 dozen 2 days ago.

No - real hunters are bow hunters
. If aluminum arrows have more penetration, then why do all target manufacturers " beef up" " targets to take hits from carbon arrows
. I shot aluminum arrows at first, but when I saw the difference in trajectory it made me feel more comfortable shooting carbons. I feel one of the main reasons that carbons are less likely to be purchased by " more experienced" bowhunters is that they already have an arsenal of aluminum arrows. If they like the carbons more than aluminum (and many do) they must justify some way to replace the 7 or 8 dozen aluminums they already own - and that can get expensive! But someone like me who started not long ago it pays BIG TIME[8D].

In my opinion, they' re beefing up the targets to take hits from high intensity bows that put out far more KE than bows used to.

I can' t quite buy the carbon is tougher than alum. theory yet. I don' t have 7-8 dozen alum. arrow lying around [:-] and am currently shooting carbon. I have some Beaman ICS hunter 400' s and Carbon express 200' s and also some Easton epic 400' s and 500' s which my boy shoots also. I have had several broken arrows in the last year. Luckly I haven' t hit anything but the target and arrows already shot. I have found if hit hard enough, all arrows mentioned will fracture and break when bent. I shot a Carbon express 200 2 days ago at 20 yards and when it got about 4 foot from the target, it took a hard left turn like when you hit a nock. I pulled the arrow out of the target(it was 8" to the left, stuck in at about a 30 degree angle) and the last 6" was missing and it was broke clean. I never found the last 6" of the arrow and none the arrows in the target showed being hit. At first I could hardly believe what happened but I think the arrow had fractured on an earlier shot and feel lucky it broke at the target and not coming out of the bow(could have been UGLY). I will continue to shoot carbon but they don' t seem to be as tough I have heard. Not trying to stir the pot, just stating my findings
