Arthur,I think I am starting to sense a change in your thinking.

A carbon arrow that weighs the same as an aluminum does a better job of penetrating,is that what you are saying.[]

I believe that,as you know, and I take it one step farther and say a carbon that weighs less CAN and potentially will out penetrate a heavier aluminum arrow.[8D]

If you are having troubles with broadheads, maybe the answer would be a slightly larger diameter carbon.I have heard some good things about the vmax from Blackhawk and they are heavy and the diameter of 21/64.

Now my arrow of choice for hunting is the Nitro Stinger and I think you would be hard pressed to find an arrow that carries a broadhead better but I don' t know how they would be at your length. They are also 21/64 at the point end.

TFOX, just a slight change in thinking. Nobody will ever convince me that a 350 grain carbon will penetrate as well as a 500 grain aluminum shot from the same bow with the same broadhead. If they did penetrate all that well, then you' d never see anything but passthroughs on the hunting videos. Instead, I' ve rarely seen a passthrough on one of those videos since ICS-type carbons have come on the scene.

Maybe a 450 grain carbon would equal the heavier aluminum. And a carbon of equal mass ' should' exceed the aluminum due to the smaller diameter and quicker recovery characteristics. That' s the theory I' m exploring anyway.

A whole lot of carbons don' t come long enough from the factory to make arrows for me. Are the Nitro shafts at least 32.5" long?

For me its carbons, they have performed well in game and on the range. I use premium arrow shafts and my thinking is the same as with CF shells. Why would I cheap out on something that can have a direct impact on my season? Funny how we can spend 200 bucks on a rangefinder or camo but an extra few bucks per shaft is out of the question!!!!

I' ve taken game with aluminum, carbon, ACC' s and all the animal I' ve shot with them are just as dead. I' ve had aluminum pass thru or not, carbons pass thru, or not and ACC' s pass thru, or not. There is advantages to each that I really like and disadvantages to each as well, the list is equal, so I don' t have a preference to any of the three. One isn' t better than the next, just different. Currently I' m shooting ACC' s as I have the last two years. Will I go back to aluminum or carbons again, yup probably will shoot both in years to come. I love to tinker, love to change and each arrow is just as deadly as the next. It' s all up to the shooter to perfect his ability, match and tune his/her equipment, stay calm and make the shot.

Arthur,I am not sure if they are that long because I have never measured one before cutting it.

There Stingers may not be as heavy as you like but there traditional stingers would be plenty heavy. You might want to cotact them to see if they have something you can/want to use.If they are long enough,I might agree with you that the tolerances might not be suitable for you.

I still think you would be happy with the Easton kinetic II' s but that price is a bit much just for experimentation.

Good luck in finding that " perfect" shaft.

Uncut Nitro shafts are 32" long.

Shaft weight:

Big Game shaft 10.5 grains/inch
Gold Shaft........8.9 grains/inch

Traditional lite shaft (spined to 60#) 9.3 grains/inch
Traditional shaft (spined to 90 #) 11 grains/inch

i used carbons this last year and i think they are awesome, i use the beman ics camo hunters and the first and only deer i have shot with it yet was a straight passthrough then it stuck in a root the deer went 20 yards and dropped. i have no complaints, im not sayin whether or not an aluminum woulda done the same but it most likely would have been ruined. just my 2 cents

Hey TD, try the carbon arrows, I think you' ll like em better than aluminum.
I switched to beman ICS 400' rds last fall, and I like the straightness factor,
the extra speed, and you don' t have to worry about the carbon bendin.
I won' t go back to aluminum.

At 32" , I could use the Nitros on my compound and longbow, but they' d be a smidge too short for my recurve. 32 1/2" just touches the back of the broadhead blade on my index finger with my ' curve. 32" contacts the riser.

I use aluminums. Probably always will. I don' t shoot real far, my setup shoots nicely with them. Once I get something to work I don' t like to change. Next year I plan on buying a new bow and have thought about switching, but we' ll see.
