Whisker Biscuit or Drop Away?
#31
I actually use 2 inch blazers on my 3-d arrows as well as hunting arrows,I agree they are are great vanes but someone else had mentioned bent fletches which is a common problom with wb`s and stock vanes or weaker one`s. As far as accuracy, less contact with anything will always be more accurate, same with speed.

I did have that problem with 4" vanes, but I haven't had that problem with blazers yet, maybe I won't. Look at this video and notice the slight tail kick after the rest falls. There's also some wb slow mo footage that looks brutal on vanes to tell you the truth. But the drop away just doesn't look like it would provide much stability off the nock.

My buddies down at vapor trails have some good slow mo footage as well for the limb driver drop away, look up whisker buisket vs. ripcord also on youtube.
The link you provided was of a drop away I would never use due to the fact that the prongs on that thing were too long and yes they would hit the vanes.
I had a trophy ridge dropzone on my bowtech black knight for about 2 days and had to go to the limb driver because my fletches were hitting on the way out. With speed bows you need to make sure that even with a drop away it needs to get of the way in time, some are much slower than others.

7-8 fps I`ve been told but have never done the experiment myself.

OH FER CRYIN OUT LOUD! No way I`m leaving this alone.
10 fps minimum!!!
My buddy ryan who runs the archery department at sportsmans wherehouse in coon rapids mn. had a guardian with a wb shooting 256,he switched to a limb driver drop away and shot 270!! I was there,if you think you can gain fps with a wb you have a broken bow thats all there is to it.
And 10 is generous,I would say the average is closer to 13 fps faster with a drop away.

I have no doubt that a good model/design drop away is a more accurate rest than the WB. Having said that, I have used both and hunt exclusively with a WB.
I have stated before, I do not consider myself an archer but rather a bowhunter. The WB, imo is a much simpler and overallbetter choice for most hunting situations(at least for me), but if I was a competitive shooter, I would have to go with a drop away hands down.
But I have a question for you JLA, you say that the drop away is much quieter.
I have not experienced that. I have used the Trophy Taker and the Dropzone and I found both made MORE noise when the arrow was being drawn back than that of my WB. I put teflon coating on the TT and the Dropzone already came with some type teflon/rubber coating, and they were still noisier in the drawing phase IMO.
What am I doing wrong or missing with the TT and Dropzone that makes the arrow cause to much abrasion/noise during the draw? I am shooting carbon arrows.

As for the tt I haven`t had any experience with one,the drop zone I find it to be fairly quiet,I use it on my old glory and find it to be quiet on the draw,I had to replace the rubber on the arrow holder after about a year,it was getting worn and noticed a differance in sound there so maybe there are some maintenence issues with it but I`m willing to deal with that.

WB. I switched shortly after I started a few years ago and have not found any of the myths to be true. My groups are tight, my bow quiet and fast enough. It probably does slow it down some, but then again, the fastest bow shoots a lot slower than the slowest rifle and no one knocks the bow because of it. To each their own. In 99.9999999 percent of the hunting situations, the amount the WB slows the arrrow down is not going to matter.
