What are the laws in your area about a bow in the truck?

Wisconsin:
• All bows/crossbows must be
unstrung or enclosed when in or on a vehicle OR in
or
on any motor driven boat while the motor is running. Some exceptions apply for
disabled hunters issued class A or B disabled permits.

You need to check local ordinances for the county, not just state laws. Hanover is one of those counties that's losing rural area by the day. More and more city/suburb sprawl. It's a shame you get hassled these days, but look at the knuckleheads running around. Law Dogs don't want youngsters showing up at their school with bows in there vehicles. Never had a problem in Goochland. No local ordinance there about bows and the transportation there of, that I know of.

I think the deputy that harrassed me was, in a way, right to bust my chops with the kind of things that are going on around here. I think we should all have our common sense checked twice a month and have our score hanging from the tailgate. Where are you in Goochland?

It's a shame, but we are living in a post 9/11 world now. With all of the school shootings and other bizarreactivities going on, the authorities need to go overboard with this kind of thing. It's very sad indeed.[&o]

I heard of a guy in WI that got ticketed because he laid his bow on the tailgate. Same wouyld apply to a firearm, must be in a case.

living in PA and hunting NY & PA for all my hunting years I could have my bow in the back and go hunting, no worries. When I moved to Wisconsin for a job that covered IL/WI/MN, I learned it was a whole new ballgame of rules then. I shook my head but I didn't need the extra grief or a ticket since hunting was my job and everything I had in my vehicle was archery related or gun related.

Illinois law states you must have the bow cased, unstrung or made in-operable (example locked, zip tie ect) While in transport in a vehicle. If leaving a hunting area you can not have a arrow knocked while walking out or while in a stand after hours.

A buddy of mine ran in to the GW this past bow season. He had his bow in the back and had aBH tipped arrowlaying up in the dash because he keeps it nocked from the time he steps out of the truck until the time he sits back in the seat. The GW checked his entire vehicle and then stated that it did not look good at all for him to have the arrow in the dash but it wasnt illegal. He then went on to say that if my buddy would have had his release on his arm that he could've gotten him for road hunting. He also told him that as long as he stepped outside of the vehicle before killing a deer it was not illegal......
